SBF V8 Conversion

Guys,

When I had my '92 T4R I researched the possiblility of putting a 5.0L small block Ford and there were conversion parts available (motor mounts, 5speed transmission adapters, etc.) but there doesn't seem to be much available for my '98 3rd Gen. Does anyone know of anything out there or know anyone who has done it? Thanks.

,Marc

I'm not so sure there is any thing liek that available and probably would have to be all custom. The big part is the ECU which got alot more complex than the older OBD1 system.

I'm on this forum and over on yotatech and I've never seen a 5.0 squeezed into a 3rd gen but I have seen somebody put a 3.0 from a Supra complete with a turbo but that thing was a lot of work and I don't think the project lasted long.

Hmmmm... Well I'm not gonna be too worried about ignition, that will likely be stand-alone and not the stock computer. I'm alright at fabricating so the mounts shouldn't be too tough. However, the adapter for the 5speed is not something I can tackle. So, someone has made one to fit the 2nd Gen tranny but not the 3rd Gen?

I believe if I were doing this swap, I'd just run the BorgWarner 5 speed that came equipped on a lot of Fords. Seems you could use the double sump oil pan on the 5.0 and possibly lower the mounts to make the transmission hump fit. This is all theory though, as i have never installed one in my 3rd gen. Please keep us posted if you do this swap.:D

That's an idea. It's either rebuild my motor one of these days and boost it (SC, turbo, or other) or else put a workhorse V8 in that'll never die... I haven't read of many guys building a custom turbo for their 3.4's...

URD has done turbo 3.4's and even twin turbo set ups with 800hp. I believe Gadget is the guy to search for turbo information. I also know that there are a couple guys that have swapped in the Lexus V8 into a 3rd gen. The people who make most of the kits to swap V8's into anything would be Advance Adapters.
