Scion FRS Radio

Ok. So Ive had a ton of messages over the last few days asking what all is needed to make this work in your 4Runner.

These are the parts I used, all of which I already had from doing the T1819 swap.
This is for a Non JBL system. I have no idea what you will need if you have JBL

pt546-00120-ad -antenna adapter, you will also need another metra adapter if you want to use both the stock antennas

pt546-00120-ch -this is the main harness, 20 to 28 pin adapter

pt546-74120-mc -this is the bluetooth mic kit. I know that the bluetooth would not work on the T1819 unless you had the mic, I do not know if that is the case with the FRS radio.

pt546-00120-us -USB adapter. This, with some modification, will allow you to plug a usb device into the unit.

There are other parts you will need if you want to have the Nav and BeSPOKE functions. I have not yet acquired these so Im not sure what the part numbers are yet.

Ive been using this for the last couple of days now and I love it. Definitely an upgrade over the T1819.

Ill update later once I find the Nav parts.

So essentially I would need 3 harness. Few more questions to be clear. Where can I purchase the adapter to use both antenna ? You mentioned metra. Is that a brand? Second, the Bluetooth mic kit, is that all I would need to be able to utilize Bluetooth function on this unit ? Third, which site has a good deal for these 3 harness? I purchased my antenna adapters on ebay. And yes, Metra is a brand. The part numbers you need are 40-GM10 and 40-UV43.

As far as I know, the mic kit is all you need for the bluetooth to work. I didnt use anything else with mine.

As far as buying the harnesses go, Google. I purchased mine at Joe Myers Toyota, but there are probably several Toyota parts dealers online that sell them as well.

If you dont want to have the USB function, then dont get the USB harness.

You will need to swap the mounting brackets from your stock unit to the new one though. It will only use 3 of the four screws for each bracket.

Im not sure if you have ever taken the dash apart, but its really not that hard. Just take your time and dont pull too hard on anything. Ive had mine about several times now and havent broken anything yet, but it would be pretty easy if you arent careful.

Yes. One is a Y adapter and the other converts the micro antenna to a regular sized on. You will see once you take the old one out

HI, will the unit play streaming video from a phone or ipod? Bluetooth or wired? By the way, I understand that you can Bluetooth a maps app, so you won't need to buy the Scion Nav system that is getting marginal review anyway. Thanks Phil

If it does stream video, I have no figured out how to use that function nor have I seen anything about it in the manual.

You can, but as I stated before you need the Nav extension.

Found a local part out, $65 radio, all harnesses thru my work discount $98 I'll be attempting my swap this weekend

Thanks for the great write up. Do you know if it will the Bluetooth will work with an Iphone 5? Phone, music, Pandora, Iphone Navigation? I was reading on the Scion page that there were some issues with the prior touchscreen scion radio and the iphone 5. I ordered one from a source on craigslist but for about double what you guys have paid. Hope it works! Phil

I have an iPhone 5 and it works fine with this unit. I have not tried to use the nav on the phone yet. Car has been in the shop almost a week so I havent really had time to play with it.

As long as you have a factory radio now, no. You will just swap the brackets and screws from the stock one to the scion one. You will only use 3 of the 4 screws on each side though.

If you havent had the dash off before, make sure you research how to do it. Its not hard but there are a couple of bolts that are hard to see.

My god, what a difference.

Thanks so much man. Swapped in 30mins all said and done w tools put away.

All you'll need is a flat head screw driver, #10 & #8 socket wrench w extension. This is an absolute Breeze And what a difference it makes
