So umm.... I went to check the foam filter, and, well, I don't seem to have the air pump.
In the FSM the pump is under the 2TR-FE but not for the 1GR-FE
Can anyone else with a 2010 1GR confirm this?
The air pump was added in 2013 to the 4Runner.
Where is this OEM foam filter? Do I need to open the injection body to remove it? If so, 4 torx screws around and one in the middle? My inlet cap had no foam in it:

Feels like an extra 5HP at wide open throttle now for sure :trophy:
Ok seriously though, I am perplexed how that little piece of foam in there sat and acted like a piece of filter media, the cap over the intake is an odd design as well I suppose it would suppress intake noise a bit at the nozzle? Who knows, anyway was a worthwhile reason to have a beer and spend a few mins under the hood. Here's some more pics if you haven't seen enough already in this thread >
I did this on the GX460, and it whistles like a fwording banshee after the mod on startup until the secondary pump kicks off.
Anyone else notice this?
Maybe the 1UR is drawing a lot more air from the pump on startup...
To those that have done this mod, any preference/advantage to the K&N as opposed to the Uni filter?
