Now im totally choked at my original dealer for diagnosing the problem with no machine and trying to soak me for 4500$ and not having a clue what there doing. After servicing three generations of t4rs that i have owned its time to switch dealers

Man, I'm glad you found a competent honest dealer. They are so few and far between these days, and most consumers never realize it.
One of my cars is in a shop right now having repairs done to repair damage from a minor accident. 40% of what they are charging for is unnecessary BS. It has no impact on me, since I have no deductible to pay in this accident... but it is amazing what they can get away with. It's not worth my time to argue with them, but it is just more evidence of how dishonest the entire auto repair industry is. I hate dealing with them (and that is why I try to do all my own work whenever possible). I wish there was a to reward the good and put the bad out of business, but it just seems to be getting worse.

This whole experience has really openedmy eyes too the fact that many dealers didnt want to get involved because they didnt understand anything about kdss or they were not willing to buy the machine for so few trails w/kdss. The overall picture of dealers and suspension places and off road shops that i talked too looked at me with blank expressions when i said the words kdss blew my mind. An invredibly small amount of people know of this system

hi Grimace my ex dealer was Granville Toyota idiots.other idiots to avoid destination toyota burnaby,all open road toyotas not helpful regency was helpful but no machine also sunrise in abby and all lexus dealers bordering on rude most of them.The dealer of the day is Jim Pattison Toyota in surrey or north van they share the machine talk to Devin very knowledgable they have serviced two lexus suvs w/kdss and there senior mechanic well versed in kdss knowledge

Out of all the KDSS threads, this seems to have the most technical knowledge in it, so I'll post here. I have a 2009 GX470 Sport w/KDSS. 103k on the truck. My KDSS threw code C1832 which I diagnosed as the failed accumulator solenoid downside valve. Basically the black electrical box on the aluminum block at the rear of the assembly failed internally. No leaks in the system and no corrosion or compromised wire harnesses. Would anyone who's looked at the system think that the electrical solenoid could be removed and repaired. Lexus told me that the entire assembly had to be replaced because they have an updated part (prolly something similar to a 5th gen 4runner setup). I can source just the valve with the solenoid online for about $740. The entire assembly though Lexus is over $3k, and I can source it myself for $2300. Anyway, my solenoid failed gradually... For about a year it would be intermittently working... Usually after a freeze / thaw cycle outside. My guess was condensation got into the solenoid and slowly corroded it. The solenoid is held onto the valve by four long screws that go through the corners of the box and into the aluminum block/valve. The bolt is 80pct shoulder and about 1/4" of fine thread, indicating that it's not under tremendous pressure, but I'm not sure. I was thinking maybe I could pull the solenoid, crack it open, clean it up, and reinstall. I just don't know if I need to bleed the system or not first or if this is just a waste of time. Any thoughts?

KDSS pump repair
I've been reading different KDSS threads and thought it could help others if I would share my experience.
Bought a 2010 TE in Jan 2011 with 10k km from a dealer. Within 1st year had a KDSS light come on. After many hours of troubleshooting (I think it was a faulty connector), dealer ended up putting in a new pump under warranty. A few weeks ago (at 150k km) KDSS light comes on again. This time I witnessed the troubleshooting (what happens when u know ur gonna pay !). Tech removed the skid plate and I couldn't believe how much wet mud (with road salt of course being here in Canada) was packed in there. Turns out the aluminium manifold had a leak. No wonder when you see the condition of the manifold. Leak was coming from the pre-made hole (smallest and lowest of the manifold). As you can see from the pics the manifold was very corroded. Estimate for the repair was well over 2k but I challenged the 250$ for the fee for the SST to pressurize/bleed the system coming from Toyota Canada (told them it was not my problem they don't have the tool). They accepted to remove the 250$ fee so It ended costing 2.1k including taxes (1h of diagnostics, 2.5h work, pump , oil). CONCLUSION/ADVICE: remove that skid plate once a year and clean remove the junk. Make sure to protect the electrical connector with grease to keep the rust out as well

I'm pretty meticulous with cleaning the underside of my vehicle between trips, and I'm always amazed how much junk I have to clean off that assembly every time I've removed that plate. I did it twice last year, and it was full of mud both times.

Just want to clarify that the manifold you see on the picture is clean. Now looks like a chipped stone surface due to corrosion

They quoted me over $1500 to fix it, I’m sure it was the first KDSS the dealer has even ever seen. So I did nothing with it.

Hi Ryan.kdss systems can be a hassle if you don't have a dealer that has a sst and knowledge of kdss.since I started this thread in 2015 I have learnt what there is too know about kdss and have my dealer in the Vancouver area check the system every spring and clean mud out.it has worked flawlessly since 2015.if you are in the lowermainland go to Jim Pattinson Toyota in north van or Surrey they have the sst and are very knowledgeable about kdss.

I just took my kdss manifold skid plate down last weekend and did my annual spring cleaning. It was full of dirt and junk like it always is, but it cleaned up perfectly and looks brand new. I also took the opportunity to coat the wires that go to the connector in dielectric grease.
I've had my 4runner since 2015, in a very corrosive environment. I drop that OEM KDSS skid plate twice a year on average-- more if I've been in to a lot of mud, and it's always LOADED with crap. But it sprays out easily with a hose. I hit the fittings with a small brush and it always looks new when I'm done.
I'm not sure what would be involved to make it corrode like that,
but I can say that it's VERY easy to drop that little skid; (2) 10mm bolts and it's off.
clean it often, and take good care of that electrical connection on the aft side.
