Serious kdss problem

Hey all,

I'm looking to put together a bleeder kit for my KDSS maintenance, and current clunk.

Can someone help me find the KDSS procedure for bleeding/recharging. All the previous links in this post are old and dead. I'll keep searching but any quick shortcut is much appreciated.

My KDSS is shot and running with most of the fluid leaked out. Have sourced new accumulator and front tubing, but everything is bound up due to being a northeast truck. been trying for months to back off one nut but it's corroded to the hydraulic tubing. The rear tubing is $600. Thought about cutting out all the tubing and having high pressure hoses built since the tubing is probably due to the manufacturing process. Then, I think i'd have the problem of toyota not touching it to recharge. PITA!! Trying to work the front part of the tubing off at the ram since it's less corroded and having a hydraulic shop build me that section since it's mostly hose. Parts are expensive and that small section can not be purchased separately. Great system but sucks it corrodes due to a cheap skid plate. I cleaned it out often, but never took the plate off, think it had to be from previous owner combined with excessive salt/brine exposure.

This was a great post to read. Question that I have for anyone with KDSS issues as mentioned, did your KDSS light come on in these situations? A local Toyota shop is telling me the system needs to be bleed and recharged based on the a diagnostic scan, however is shows no error codes. I have no KDSS light on and never have. I had them looking into the system due to the feared kdss lean.

My light never came on, ever!. After building the recharge kit and going through the procedure for bleeding a couple of times and STILL had the clunk I decided to try removing the front sway and my clunk went away. Drives almost exactly like it did with the sway (have BP-51 suspension) and still have the rear sway. Might try removing that at some point as well.

This is not my video but if anyone is interested in building a bleed/recharge kit the video claims its actually pretty easy. When I bought my TE I was worried when I saw the $3k+ bills people were paying so I searched for a diy and this is what I found. Fortunately my system is ok, although I do have a clunk, but if the light comes on I'm gonna spend a couple hundred on this before finding a dealer to overcharge me.

I know this is an old thread, but a wealth of info for ANYONE with KDSS! We have a new ORP and after driving a 2018 SR5, decided it was a necessary option for us, as we drive 95% on the pavement. So far, we LOVE it!
I read quite a few threads on reliability of the system. Most people said it was very reliable, more than XRAES unless you live in Road Salt states and don't pull the guard off the accumulator to keep it clean and free of corrosion on a regular basis.
We live in San Francisco, so see no road salt and very little mud. I'm hoping the system holds up for many miles given our environment. I will check on it after we do any 4wheeling in the mud.
Has anyone heard how long the system lasts if corrosion isn't a factor? 100K, 200K miles?
To the OP, if he still gets notices when someone responds to this thread...after reading the saga of your problem, I was very glad to hear you were able to get it fixed for so much less than you initially thought. Thanks for the post, and to all the people who contributed to this thread!

Read through this thread. The OP was facing a huge bill to repair his KDSS and finally took it to the right dealer that found it was just corrosion of the wiring under the accumulator shroud. Many people chimed in that is a weak spot for the system, seems to accumulate mud and brine easily, which sits there and eats at the accumulator and wiring. It sounds like an easy maintenance thing to do to prevent the problem.
