Should I vinyl wrap my hood or not?

I have driven to denver and back to salvage yards to never find a sport hood, never right color and or damaged from hail. We had a some major hail storms, one in particular years back that messed up a lot of hoods. So far no luck finding junk yard hood that is clean.

If you find one with hail I have a good friend who can push the dents out for you. He's slammed right now because of the hail storm in Denver, but has downtime where he would do it on the cheap for you.

Imo it looks like it was wrecked and not painted yet like you said, the matte black hood looks good on some 4runners but not yours, maybe its the lack of a roof lightbar or lights, so it doesn't serve any kind of purpose like keeping glare down.

Keeps glare down during the day time which is what most racers use it for.

Its how I can of feel about it, the pic dont give it justice, I will shoot one at a slight angle and further away. It looks not as wrecked as the photo shows.

Do you have much black on your runner other than from the tires and bumper? From your profile pic it look like that might be the only black on the vehicle. With that said I would wrap it if you dont plan to add anymore black to the runner. I have a black hood on a thundercloud runner but i think it blends with the other black i already have, and its gloss which IMO makes a difference in appearance...

I think you could go either way with the hood. If you painted the side panels and the fender flares it would really tie in well. Or if you had black sliders it would have the same effect. This is all just personal opinion and that is the cool thing about it, who cares what anyone else thinks if you like it. Good looking runner, let us know what you decide to do and post some pics to this thread of the painted rear bumper when you get to it! If that is already in the plans, paint that first then decide what to do with the hood.

I know primer can hold up well when sealed really well and an epoxy type. But not sure how well these aftermarkets are primed. How long have you had your hood on your 4runner in the elements?

It's been through 2 winters in Colorado and 2 summers worth of driving all over. Doesn't show any wear as of yet. It is a cheep hood to, not an OEM. Honestly the only issue is really with the texture, since it's matte things stick to it and it looks dirtier than the rest of the truck.

If you aren't going to use the vinyl for anything else just toss it on there. If it looks bad then take it off.

No to the wrap

I would detach the hood from the vehicle, spread it out in grass over cardboard, use air compressor and spray gun to spray a close matching silver. Maybe not a perfect match but close enough. And practice some auto body painting. It's not going to be perfect. You are not professional auto body painter. But it will be project to learn on and it will maybe look better than primer black.

Also do not worry so much about appearance. My truck has dings and scratches all over it. I have concrete splatter stuck to the side door and a few spots i accidentally got paint on the truck. I have dried up mud caked inside the back rusting bumper. What i am saying is i beat the shit out of this truck and i'm up to 283k miles and don't really care about how pretty and shiny it is. I haven't washed my truck since i owned it. I laugh at the people lined up at the car wash as i drive by.

Worry more about finding a wife, or if you already have then spending time with your children. Who cares what color the hood of the truck is. At least we don't have one of those gay hybrid vehicles that looks like a mini van larping as an SUV. I see those things everywhere. I'd rather have a 3rd gen with mismatched colored doors and hoods than drive one of those crossover type vehicles that crazy women drive like maniacs in. I don't think women should be allowed to vote or drive.
