"Smokers Kit" + USB Mod

Awesome, thank you! I’ll just leave that parking brake wire loose for now then. :clap2:

Save yourself potentially future trouble. Pull both he parking break and the reverse indicator to the fuse box while everything is apart. It took probably 5 minutes or less to pull the the right way. Will be much easier in the future if you decide to splice one or both wires to where they should be.

Darn, I wish I saw this, or thought of it myself before the install! I put it in awhile ago, but the good news I should that it works awesome! Her car had a factory JBL with 6 disk changer, so I decided to get the integration harness so I could keep the amps. It not only sounds good, but it is seriously loud! I totally want this for my runner now, but I also wish it had the rear USB, so I’m going to keep looking for a bit before deciding. I mean, having the front USB isn’t a total deal breaker, but I was hoping to do a remote port near the DAC switch just for a cleaner setup with no wires hanging down.

Even though running those wires would’ve made future stuff easier, I still need to pull it one more time, as I didn’t have time to do the backup camera today, so whenever I get around to that, I’ll take your suggestion for sure.

I did this...

I put mine here, too.
I got the double USB...
one for power (charging) and the other for audio.
I did find that I kept bumping my USB thumb drive with it mounted there...
so I bought a low profile thumb drive and haven't had a problem since.

Yeah, I can see the "burger tray" hitting a full size thumb drive. A USB cord is no problem though.

Dude, that's cool! I hate the OEM location of the AUX jack. You have a writeup?

No write up. The little panel I bought has the USB and audio leads integrated and I just popped the blank switch, fished the leads through the hole, connected them to the back of my Pioneer H/U , and voila. :)

Seems like a fun mod, im going to give it a shot as I dont like how the standard non-smokers tray has to be flipped open all the time while I charge my phone.

I second that. I have one on my Iphone 5SE and my buddy has one (on my recommendation) on his Iphone 6.

Best phone case ever!

Just an update regarding this mod. I have been very, very pleased with everything I performed regarding this USB mod. I wouldn't hesitate at all to recommend this to anyone.

I dig the placement of this!

I bought the similar USB adapter and actually put it out of site in the center console. I didnt like the idea of having a cord laying the cabin.

Also, the oem ashtray makes for a great place to put my phone.

Since then, its been ~2 years now...the USB adapter gave up...very odd, but to be expected for something I paid <$10 for

Smokers Kit for 09 Limited

Has anyone attempted to install the smokers kit on a 2009 4th gen? 2009 seems to be the only year with which this item is not compatible, since the trunk window switch on this model was moved to this exact area the part is supposed to be installed. I checked to see if I could easily move the trunk window switch up next to the DAC button (in between the seat heater switches), but I would need extra wiring parts. I'm open to moving the rear window switch elsewhere, I just don't know what components I would need. It seems very strange that 2009s are the only year that don't have an option for an easily installed smokers kit...

I performed this mod today but have not installed it. I should get my CarPlay Head Unit in Wednesday or sooner, so I will actually install this once I have the radio as well.

I posted elsewhere that my AUX 12v power adapter near the driver was not working. It was intermittent and it seemed as if it was because the connection between accessories and the socket was poor. In researching a fix, I came up with this idea.

Needed:

The "smokers kit" feels nice. The USB Socket kit feels like a cheap USB port. If it works and lasts a few years, it's no big deal. Perhaps it will feel better once installed.

I set it up this way as I wanted a USB connection going to the back of the headunit. If all you want is "power", there are numerous other options for that.

If you wanted, you could leave the ashtray light plugged in and installed. I don't plan on using the ashtray for anything other than storage of something random, so I took it out so I wouldn't have to plug anything like that in.

:hail: great write-up, just got my parts in today, and seen this. AWESOME.

Got mine done today, and it even works LOL..

Thank for the detailed write-up
:hat:

Yeah, I took that route as well.
High-Speed-Dual-Port-USB-Car-Charger-with-Audio-Socket-for-Toyota-USB-charging-for-iPhone.jpg

I found a dual USB (1 power, 1 data) like this to feed my c. 2015 Display Audio I dropped in to preserve the aesthetics.

But like OP, I’m looking to fix the broken 12v power socket plus I want a USB-PD Type C to round out my power choices. Plus the pocket flipping cover won’t stay shut. This kit seem like just the ticket.
