That's a joke right? Windows 10 is updated all the time. Any device running windows 10 (legally) can get updates. This HU that was designed and manufactured in 2019 is running the same OS as was released in 2017.

Bug fixes? Nope
Security updates? Nope
Enhancements? Nope
Still just Android 8.1!

imagine if it stopped doing that and the new toast app didn't run on the unspported OS or froze and sometimes crashed when making toast because your toaster hadn't received important security or performance updates that the toast app needed to perform well. then to make toast you would have to look for old .apk toast apps on download sites from previous versions and sideload them and just hope they didn't have malware. all because your toaster started out on an old edition of the Toast OS and the manufacturer won't release updates.

i'm not a hater, I really want this to be okay because I want one because it looks really good. that's why i asked for the CPUz info and what android version it's running. i wanted to know about the android version because i have an old cheap android tablet and have problems now where some apps can't update and have problems because the new versions require me to update android which i can't do, and I was hoping I'd have a bit more time before running into similar issues because they said they wouldn't be issuing updates.

If you look at it from that standpoint, then it doesn't matter if you're running Android 9 or 8 or 4. If the currently required apps are running the it is fine.

Quite frankly, you can't expect a $500 piece of Chinese crap to work as well as a unit actually designed to work in a car or a standalone Android tablet.

It's an android tablet, so think of it as being the same as your phone. You can use Google maps when connected to a Hotspot, or download any number of offline GPS apps. I recommend sygic.

I use android auto (also can do Apple carplay, though I don't have an iPhone to test it) so I get my nav through Google maps that way.

My phone can share an internet through Bluetooth, so when I start the car and the Bluetooth connects, the unit has internet access so a stand alone Google maps can work that way as well.

A stand alone system will continue to function for the life of the vehicle. An android tablet that does not receive OS updates will lose functionality over time. Including youtube, pandora, spotify, apple car play, android auto, maps, etc. If you were to bootup a 7 year old android phone right now, none of the apps would connect/work anymore.

As long as people are fine with having it only function as a radio and BT player in 8 years from now, then let them spend their money how they see fit.

All I'm trying to do is inform everyone what will happen.

what version of android is it running?

Couldn't get CPU-Z to run, but was able to get AIDA64 to run.
