StrongArm 4286 Gas Charged Lift Supports review

For those guys in cold climates are you happy with the performance of the 4286 models in winter months? I am leaning towards the 6815 but thought I would ask anyway.
Has anyone tried one of each? Perhaps it would be the perfect combination after reading about how the 6815 is almost too strong?

Well, these StrongArms have officially failed. Cannot hold the hatch open past midway. I recommend you get the extra strength versions.

I am about a year into these struts so no issues, yet. I am curious if anyone has an easy way to replace the plastic washer/bushings, as I used what was left of the the stock pieces (not much).

Does your HiluxSurf have the factory rear spare tire carrier? If it does, you need the factory tailgate struts since the tailgate is heavier compared to the 4Runner tailgate.

Yes I have a surf with the swingaway tyre carrier. I can get them recharged to a higher pressure though. My problem is that I recharged my factory struts to a pressure that is too high...

sorry, but what I meant was to use the JDM factory back door damper stays for the N185W with rear swing-out spare tire carrier

Why? are the slightly stronger ones for the 4runner still way too weak for us?

I'm just comparing the stock USDM vs the stock JDM stay dampers. It's because of the additional weight of reinforcements needed to support the rear swing-out spare tire carrier. I have tried the USDM Toyota stay dampers and the pair lasted 3 years only and even when new, I had to help raise the tailgate. When I replaced it with a new pair of JDM stay dampers, the tailgate went up on its own at a controlled rate

I have only had my 6815s for just shy of one year its encouraging to read of others with good luck on a longer basis under similar conditions, I concur on too hard vs saggy hatch.

I bought a pair of "added support for ladder - P/N 6815" lifts for my T4R from Lift Supports Depot through Amazon. My T4R has a Gobi rack and ladder.
Anyhoo, I was in cold temps (20'sF) early this month for a few days and was surprised to see the rear hatch sag an inch or two. In Phoenix, since then and no sag so it clearly is cold temp related.
Just for grins I contacted the seller (thanks to this thread for the reminder) to see what they have to say about this.

Missing pins and clips -- where to buy?
I just tried removing my old struts, which were replacements that a previous owner had.
To my chagrin, they had used a bolt on the top as the struts they had put in were threaded. On the bottom was a pin system thing with an arm that had a round clip that went around the lower part of the bracket.
Of course, neither of these parts fit my 6815s. The both top bolt and lower pin are too large for the openings on the brackets for my replacements.
So, I'm wondering what the original setup is supposed to look like? What parts do I need and where do I get them? Or, conversely, can I just buy smaller bolts that will fit through the bushing replacements I bought and call it good?
