Stuck in the snow

Yes the stock tires on the TE suck as well. Don't know why it was fitted with all-seasons instead of all-terrian on the Trail Edition 4runner. I will replace it with Revo2 soon. I had a set of Revo's on my last vehicle and they performed very well in snow.

No complaints about the Revo2's and we have gotten 85 inches (+/-) so far this year. I have gotten stuck 2 times and neither were because of the truck or tire. Both times were at the end of my driveway where the drifts were over 5 feet and I had to stop for oncoming cars. Once I shoveled the snow that was over the hood, she barreled right out in 4L...

I agree with what y'all are saying....the weak point of driving in the snow here is going to be the factory tires on my limited and not the truck as a whole. If I thought the weather would continue like it is now, I'd probably start shopping for different tires. Let's pray for warmer times soon!

2) Did you/can you adjust the AWD settings?

I haven't had a bad snow storm since dec. 26 here in the new jersey shore. I drove all day during that blizzard. We had 3 feet with drifts up to 4 feet. I was driving all day during that blizzard literally. My business was open that day thanks to the 4runner! I drove in 4hi all day till 11 or 12 at night nonstop. I had no trouble at all. The 4runner was great. Most roads have been plowed once during the day. It was whiteout conditions. My street had not been plowed that night and since my 4unner is stock I have an sr5 by the way and stock tires, it got stuck because it was too high. If I had a lift, I could have definately made it trough. The snow was up to right below the tailgate. I took the shovel out and got right back out onto the plowed road. The day after was also really bad. Most or all businesses were still closed. I am really proud of the 4runner and love seeing no cars out in the snow or stuck trucks and suvs in the snow mostly jeeps. I only saw 1 4th gen on the road.

You have the option to keep it on SH-AWD or AWD

The idea of testing out the 4wd in the snow has made it tempting to go out today in the blizzard here (KC, MO), but I've thought otherwise so far. I think your experience just confirmed that I need to be smart instead of brave since I have no real reason to go out.

I drove around for hours today. Im in Overland Park and the 4runner did great. I got to pull out a 2wd F150. They had doubts that I could help, as the snow in the parking lot was about knee high. It pulled them through a snow drift and over a curb to "safety".

I loaned my son my SR5 yesterday to drive to Des Moines for a job interview. He was going to drive his Maxima, and was reluctant to take my 'new truck'. I finally convinced him, since I have Blizzaks on it.

He said the traction control saved his azz once on a patch of black ice. I've had 3 texts from him, telling me he's ok and how fantastic the 4R is in snow.

He's named it 'snow beast'. Trouble is, I won't get to go out and play today in our 16" of snow.

I'd trade you guys... we now have 3 inches of ICE... and still falling... power lines and trees are snapping everywhere! I wouldn't take my 4runner out in this for anything. (Indiana)

The streets weren't bad enough here in KC so I had to farm my own yard, lol.

These pictures didn't really do any justice. It was over 2 feet high where I drove in my yard, and I went in easlily in 4HI, got out took pics, then backed out easily in 4HI. I was really impressed.

Did you mean Vehicle Stability Control, not Traction Control? 2 different systems, 2 different functions. Unless he was pulling out of an intersection TRAC (traction control) would do little to help him driving down the road and hitting black ice. The VSC would keep the 4R from sliding out and spinning if he hit black ice.

Just curious - glad he made it safe!

Just goes to show that no matter what you drive, 2wd, 4wd AWD or tank, if the wheels don't make it to the ground, you are stuck.

Nailed it!That sums up it perfectly!

That's why we lift our trucks.Ground clearance is king!If the OP would have had a 3/2 lift,aftermarket UCA's to gain 1-2 inches of front articulation and with oversize tires to gain another 1/2 -3/4" he probably wouldn't have had any problems.

18" here and I had no problems. I didn't even shift out of FT 4WD.

I had to shovel a path to my truck because it was waist high outside of my garage.

Having to find the loops to connect the recovery strap. Noticed, I needed to remove the plastic cover while I was under there... Pulled it out so it would not snap if it got in the way of the pulling.

I am enjoying my new 4-runner. I have pulled 2 people out of snow the past 2 days. Karma is good!
