Swapping Hoods

Hey Guys/Gals,

Crazy question...this is a bit unrealistic i suppose, but I was wondering if the hood on a Trail Edition (hood scoop) could replace the plain jane SR5 hood? Wouldnt they technically be the same measurement?

I realize how dumbass this idea is...but a guy can dream cant he? lol

I imagine the price alone for ordering/shipping the new hood would be a small fortune.lol..

something to chew on.....:snacker:

It will fit, but the new hood will be a lot of money, i have a feeling you will a rough time convincing the stealer to order you one.

See, that is what KILLS me! The economy sucks now, yet it is like pulling teeth to get dealers to do ANYTHING for you sometimes! I want to GIVE them my money, but they don't want to take it. Well not if it means they will actually have to do work, and by that I mean punch in a few numbers to a keyboard. I bend over backwards when someone calls me for someting, does not matter if it is for $2 or $20,000, that is what you do.

You can get a new hood if you hit a deer. Deer are awful around here, so if I'm ever unfortunate enough to hit one, again, I'll replace it w/ the TE hood.

You can order any part you want except maybe the frame or body. The reality is people get in wrecks all the time and they need replaced. Number one accident is rear ending somebody and that usually buckles the hood. Not that big of deal,a couple of bolts is all that holds it on and swap the latch.

They have about a 50% up mark on parts so they would love to order you one.Call your dealers parts dept. and see how much it cost.It will come primered so you will have to have it painted.I'd love to hear how much it cost. After having one on my last 06 sport, I personally prefer the flat hood.

Or you can wait a couple of years and find one from a junk yard. The online technology in parts tracking in junkyards these days is amazing. I was trying to locate a tranny for a M3 and he pointed to the computer were 12 of them were in the country and the prices with shipping to him.

maybe you will get lucky some day and find someone who wants to trade. on the tacoma forum i was on there were sometimes people who bought a trd sport, but didn't like the look/obstruction/non-functional hood scoop, but liked the other features of the model. people were making trades often (usually the person w/ the wanted hood got some cash too). but keep that in mind and watch this forum and see if a new TE owner complains about the scoop.

I will be definitely the one who would love to make a swap of my hood with a scoop for one without it. The problem is that my TE is going to be (not yet arrived) in Shoreline Blue, but as far as I know, there is no SR5 in that color available (at least in Canada). Any ideas?

Even if you found one that is the same color, it would still need to be painted (and the adjacent panels blended) in order to achieve a perfect match. There are always alternates or slight variations from vehicle to vehicle even from the factory. So if you come across someone willing to swap, it doesn't matter what color it is as long as you have a good body shop around you.

Good point. Probably, I should find a way to live with it instead.

Well I for one have an SR5 and would love to trade for a TE hood. I have one in mag grey and live in TN. If anyone wants to ever swap in my neck of the woods, let me know.

Ditto on a Mag Grey in TX

Too bad you guys do not live near the State of Washington I would gladly swap you my mag grey scooped TE hood for a normal one.

I spoke with the dealer about getting a normal non-scooped hood and if memory served me it was about $400 bucks and there was plenty in stock ready to ship if I wanted one. It would come primered black. I am tempted to do this and just have a body shop clear coat the primer or paint it mat black. Should cut the glare down a lot. Just have a list of other things I need to get done first that I am working on.

Well if you ever decide to drive down this way, hit me up. Too bad we can't get Overstock to ship the hoods, $2.95 no matter the size...

local body shop quoted me 1k to prime/paint a TE hood to match my limited.

dunno how much from the stealer it'd be.

new update: from my dealership the hood would be 375....and 450 to paint.

Hi guys,

Just got a major dent on my SR5 hood today and it looks like this is the excuse I needed to do the SR5/TE hood swap.

Found the cheapest TE hood I could here (#1 on diagram): 2010 TOYOTA 4RUNNER Parts - ToyotaPartSales.com

Questions

Has anyone here actually done this swap?
Do I need to order any other parts listed in the diagram?
It says "hood Trail Edition PARTS: Part replacement requires new hood nozzles." Any idea what they mean?

Thanks
