T-SB-0081-12 Headlamp Surface Oxidation

Mine were ordered today. I brought the tsb and the thunk/clunk tsb- the tech didn't even drive it to confirm the issue. He did say the prop shaft was on national back order. Thanks to the OPs for posting these. I love this forum and have learned so much about my baby.
 
Got both the headlights replaced today, along with the rear shaft. They didn't really complain at all, just looked at them and did the swap.
 
What mileage are you guys getting your headlights replaced at? I had taken the Runner to the dealership at 29k and they served up the ticket as CNV (could not verify). After a short discussion with the Service Manager, he stated that he could just order some and put them in (this is prior to the TSB). One thing led to another and I was unable to get back to the dealer in a timely manner. Now at 43k and the TSB in hand, they will not replace them. As you might imagine my luck, the Service Manager position has changed hands.

My 7/125k Toyota Platinum VSA will not cover the headlights to be replaced under warranty. They (warranty) say that "they don't do headlights."

Quoting from the VSA guidelines, Lamps (Back-up, Fog Light, Side Marker, and Turn Signal Light Assemblies) ARE NOT covered. One would think that if Headlights -or- Headlamps were not covered, or were considered lamps for this discussion, they might have listed those in the parentheses. They are not listed in a 'group' that IS covered, but are not listed as an item specifically NOT covered, unless you interpret Lamps=Headlights (specifically).

I am thinking of contacting Toyota corporate to open a case. I feel that those with 2010 4Runners are being put at a disadvantage because of the late issuance of the TSB. Basically, Toyota is saying we issued a TSB and gave you a replacement part, but you're paying for it.

Thoughts? Suggestions?
 
I had talked to Toyota and was told that if you had it previously documented, then they must honor it...call Toyota and let them know...
 
headlight haze

My truck has 33,450 miles took it into the dealership Friday night showed the the problem to the service guy and also told them about the TSb the next day the service manager called me up to let me know he ordered the parts and they will replace them this saturday coming up no questions or anything!!:cheers:
 
what happens if you are out of warranty, will they cover something like this? the TSB does not specify the coverage like it does for the driveshaft issue and driver seat issue.

For those that have had the lights replaced, how long did the install take @ the dealer?

My repalcement headlights arrived on Friday and the dealer is telling me it's a + 4hr job to replace the headlight assembly since they have to remove the bumper, etc??? I was planning on an hour trip to have them do the install on Friday... having to remove the front bumper, etc seems way too complicated for a headlight swap but maybe it's just me...

I had my headlights replaced a couple weeks ago (thanks Diver Deuce). Service mgr thought it would take 2 hrs to complete but actually took them 1.5 hrs. They were covered under warranty and the service dept had no incentive to overestimate their work requirement.
 
Dealer told me since I have HID installed, the headlight TSB is not covered under warranty. I swear these F**king dealers will find any reasons not to cover under warranty. This is Laurel Carmax Toyota in Maryland

Of course they are not going to cover those. Why would they?
 
I'm getting everything done in one fell swoop, headlights and driveshaft. Just mentioned the tsb's to the service tech, he looked them up, said ok and ordered all of it....no questions asked. Dropping off Monday morning....

Since you obviously have a pnp(plug n play) HID set-up instead of a retrofit,why didn't you just put the factory bulbs back in and plug back in to the factory harness before you went to the dealer.

Then they would have been covered.

Try again or another dealer!

Once you modified that part your warranty and tsb is void. Its just surface oxidation...buff it out. If its from moisture inside then its on you. Price you pay for modding. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Good luck
 
again:moping:...is there any special marks or some way to tell if the new lights are the old version or the new version?:confused:
 
So my VIN is above the cut off number, but I have started to notice oxidation toward the top of the light. Any suggestions.
