T-SB-0081-12 Headlamp Surface Oxidation

So my VIN is above the cut off number, but I have started to notice oxidation toward the top of the light. Any suggestions.

Yea, grab a copy of this TSB and go to the dealer........let them figure it out. You should still be under warranty, TSB or not.

Gonna have the caretaker take Jemima in for a Front/Rear diff/transfer case fluid change and also have her bring the headlight and drive shaft TSB's in.

Funny thing is I had the oil changed with Toyota of Temecula just before hitting 36k in the beginning of July and found out a couple of days before I deployed about the Headlight TSB from Alexander Toyota of Yuma. Hopefully Toyota of Temecula will throw me a bone.

Glad to know some of you have gotten swaps without problem.

PS: There are Toyota Hilux/Hilux Surf's, Prado's, Land Cruisers everywhere out here in Afghaniland. However my mode of transport is a "Jingly Bus"...

Took my '11 in for the 20k service and brought a copy of the TSB with me to Puente Hills Toyota. Ordered a new pair of replacement right away and had them swap out the week after. Anyone near the area may want to try there.

Had mine replaced yesterday at Broadway Toyota In Portland, OR. I was out of warranty and they gladly did it anyways as I was already out of warranty before the TSB was issued. They have been great with all 3 of the TSBs I have brought to them (seatback & driveshaft). Been a great dealership to work with to date. I hope this pair stays clear for the life of the vehicle.

Took my TE in for the headlights at a hair over 33k on the odo. Service guy said there wasn't a TSB for the headlights so I spouted off the TSB number and had him look it up. He did and was "amazed" there was one for them. He took a look at them and said ok, we'll order them for you. Went back in to the desk and he started punching up info and at that point I said "Make sure you've got the right part number for the Trail Edition", he looks at me and says the P/N is the same for all of them and I point out his error. Service guy then tells me to bring it in the next day because the parts will be there, ok no problem. Show up after dropping the rock trays off the ARB bar so they can loosen the ARB bar and get the front valance off to swap them out and guess what... Part are coming from Toyota in Japan and won't be there for another week... I laughed and took Black Dynamite home. Got the call yesterday that the headlight asemblies were in, dropped it off and picked her up today. Lights look so much better now!

Thanks for tracking this down, dealership replaced mine last week along with the drive shaft, no questions asked.

Just had mine taken care of at the dealer but now I'm getting some minor rubbing of the tires against the front fender. I know that the bumper has to at least be loosened to install the headlights but wasn't expecting that it would impact the fender.

I had previously done the fender mod, I'll have to take a closer look and see if it needs just a bit more adjustment . . .

I'm sitting at 40,000 miles with an extended warranty and my dealer told me they will not replace them neither is the extended warranty. Anyone has the phone number at Toyota to complain?
Thanks in advance,
Joaquin

Toyota Help

Just picked mine up... Perhaps its me, but it feels much better, tight...like spandex on a fat chick. And the headlights are shiny and new.... So, until the next TSB....

Hazed headlights

If Toyota replaces a part it is good until the original warranty runs out or one year/12,000 miles, whichever comes later.

Wonder if anyone else could be persuasive enough to convince their service tech to substitute the TE lights for non-TEs?

I tried, he couldn't seem to grasp that they would fit. "But... the part number is different..." "Yes, but they will fit." "Yeah but... the part number..." "Nevermind."

No go on getting Trail headlights. Bummer. Guess its an extra step I need to take now when I crack open the headlights and replace them with projectors.

Put in my comments/complaints to Toyota Corporate. I basically had it known that
- I had the T4R at the dealer for the headlights (documented) PRIOR to warranty expiration and the dealership was unsure how to proceed.
- Dealership had previously stated that they may have to "just replace the lights under warranty."
- TSB was issued AFTER the expiration of warranty and now dealership will not replace them. (Not covered under Toyota Platinum Extended Warranty)
- Me = Not a happy camper.

I tried to focus in on the fact that 2010 owners were put at a significant disadvantage in that the TSB was issued at such a late date even though Toyota was "aware" that there was an issue, and that most 2010's (excluding trailer queens and garage kings) would have exceeded 36k by the time the TSB was issued.

If you had previously taken your 2010 in and had the headlight issue documented and now you are past 36k and the dealer will not replace the under warranty on the merits of the TSB, please call Toyota (800-331-4331) and open a case with them.

Went to the dealer this afternoon to get this handled. They said they had only 1 trail ed. headlight and would have to order the other. He mentioned I should do this now as they're already having sourcing issues keeping the lights in stock.

Go get this done sooner rather than later.
