Tacoma Suspension Swap

Seems easy enough. I'm assuming I just need to buy 4Runner eye bushings to replace them?

Energy Suspension 9.8108G is the bushing set you want. They worked out perfect on mine.

The mud flap rubbed a bit at first and I didn't want to remove them; so I drilled two small holes, laced some black 10 gage wire through them and sinched them back a bit to the frame/ under the truck. Out of site and out of mind. No problems offroad. Thought about going 285's but didn't want the power loss or have to cut up the truck to make them fit. Also for those questioning the the tocoma rear shocks... I just purchased the 4100 HD bilstein's (yellow) for 4runner's (for the rear of the truck) and luv them. Haven't had any issues with the length and they "are" different than the stock toyota bilstiens. Seem to be higher quality construction and come with a machined aluminum top.

Have a lead on brand new TRD Off Road coils and shocks from Craigslist. Just want to be sure these are plug and play and will provide lift on a Sport 4wd V8. I plan to put 265/70/17 tires on when the current ones where out.

With this set, I would imagine 5100's plus new OEM tacoma TRD springs for the back?

Xreas Delete + TRD Front Struts

Hey guys,

Got the wife a 4runner with 118k and knew it needed new front struts. What I did not realize was that bad Xreas requires full replacement.

So after some research, I will be ripping entire Xreas system out and replace with these 2011 TRD Tacoma front shocks + springs and rear shocks with the bushing replacements here Energy Suspension 9.8108G - Shock Bushing Set | O'Reilly Auto Parts

For some reason the shop said the rear shocks would not fit, saying the bottom eye was way too small... Has anyone else had any issues on 09's? Anyways went ahead and replaced with monroe oem replacements. Also have 05 TRD Tacoma that will utilize the rears.

Will update measurements soon...

Total cost : $546 including alignment

I know I got a little ripped, but I am liking the new level look plus ride is better than blown xreas...

Highly recommend this set up. I did the same thing, got 1.25in of lift from the tacoma coils and a slightly firmer ride over the stock springs. Also have the daystar 2.5 spacer lift kit all the way around and the truck sits even on all four tires. Think it sits 38 inches ground to fender.

Do you think the spacers are necessary for your 265/70-17? If i need to buy spacers I'm thinking I might be better off getting an aftermarket OME or Toytec kit...

With 265/65/17 being the factory size, I don't think you'll have an issues fitting a 265/70 in there. I haven't done it myself But I plan on running a 265/75/16 (same size as 265/70/17) and don't anticipate any clearance issues as others have this same setup without problems. My truck sits at factory height now but I'll be installing the exact same could/struts/shocks within the next month or so

Edit: also depends on what you plan on doing with the vehicle. If you plan on flexing a lot, you may have clearance issue. I won't be doing anything more than light trails and dirt/gravel roads so for it it will be fine

That's how I feel too, that the tires will be fine. 99.9% of the time I'll be on forest roads or "easy" trails where flex wont really be necessary. Now to figure out what rear springs to get.

I'm sticking with my factory springs for now. A lot of people run fj springs because they give about 1/2 an inch of lift. That way you're getting a little more clearance but you're not adding take after getting rid of it with the Tacoma suspension. I took a lot from this thread as he used the exact setup I'd like to. And the stance of his rig is perfect I think

i had the 265/70/17 nitto terra grapplers on my truck before the lift and at full crank i had a slight rub... nothin to worry about though. they will fit fine

I'm about to do trd complete front on mine but not sure about the rear... was planning on stock coils with 4600 or 5100s... Is it safe to assume that this set up will "level" the front using only those components? So then adding a 1" spacer to front and 2" spacer rear would bring up and keep it level? Does that make sense?

I just completed my Tacoma swap this afternoon. I got exactly 2 inches of lift. The components came off of a 2014 4x4 TRD double cab with 7k miles on it. I couldn't be happier.

Just a few tips for others like me who have never attempted something like this. Drop the sway bar. I wrestled with the first side for hours until I found someone mention in passing that the sway bar may need to be removed. After I did that it took me literally 15 minutes to do the other side. I've seen videos of others doing it without touching the sway bay and I don't understand how. There's no physical way my struts would have come out with the sway bar still installed.

New tires this week and then ill throw up some pictures.

i think any 6 lug tacoma front struts fit no problem so yes

Thanks, I seen you said this on page 7 but didn't see anyone confirm it so got kinda worried and have been passing on all 2wd TRD off road suspension packages I have come across. Last thing I need to do is buy suspension components for the wife's t4r and it not bolt up. Would hear that for weeks.

2003, V8, 4x4. I lost about a half inch of lift after putting on MetalTech sliders (damn they're heavy) and a full aluminum RCI skidplate kit. Pics will be forthcoming.
