TE KDSS w/ OME... Lean to the Right??

When the rear axle is hanging, as when the vehicle is on the lift, it's hanging by the rear shocks. The KDSS should have no impact on the angle of the axle at that point. If there is an angle it would be because of a difference in the shocks (or shock mounts, or rubber bushings for the shocks, etc.).

For what its worth, I looked at you picture (right side up though) and it looks like the driver side front wheel is lower too, so it might be the camera angle? OR maybe the lift isn't level.

If the trim packer IS installed, that's probably your problem.

Yep, I knew the photo (Actually the lift itself) was slightly off. That's why I included the measurements from the wheels to the fender, independent of the ground. Based on that, the front wheels are hanging evenly.

I gotta get under there and see if the trim packer is installed. What's it look like and isn't it supposed to be installed on the front driver's side anyway (not the rear driver's side)?

Ok, am I missing something? I can't find the spacer/ trim packer on either front shock (and I don't see any place it would be on the rears). Here are the photos of the shocks, the first two are the driver's side and the last two are the passenger's side.

Also, went by the Toyota dealer today to see if it was the lift or KDSS causing the lean. They suggested putting another 2.5K miles on it (2.5K now, since the lift) to see if the springs settle out.

Nope!

Recalibrated myself both with 4 wheels off the ground and sitting on level ground. Took it to a Toyota Dealer who said I needed to put some more miles on it to let it settle (I had 4k on the lift at the time). Once I had 6k on the lift, I took it to another dealer who said the lean was because of an aftermarket sway bar. Some intense negotiation later, they finally accepted that it was simply the KDSS sway bar (which none of the techs had ever seen before).

Problem persists...

So this lean to the right has been bugging me more the past few weeks... Given that I have Toytec Adjustable CO's in the front I'm wondering if I can adjust the passenger side CO to add ~1/4" of extra height (I think this would be a 1/8" adjustment at the CO thread if memory serves from the instructions). It should work like a trim packer, right???

I'm trying to figure out how the KDSS system will affect the overall "lean" of the rest of the vehicle -- any thoughts? I haven't come up with any other "good" ways to fix this lean situation...

When i installed my bilistiens 5100 all around i unbolted the sway bar/swing arm connection and put a jack under the kdss piston. and then with a lot of pain put the sway bar back...no problems with lean. at all. at least not yet with 8000 miles on them.

was i suppose to do something with the kdss? its running perfect.

oh and i did front then back separate

any idea how to fix this? i am running Radflo 2.0 and have the same issues going on.

My truck has a 1" lean towards passenger as well. ive tried KDSS recal several times and the problem is still there.

I tried adjusting coilovers and KDSS recal with all 4 wheels in the air - no luck.

Driver Front 37.5"
Passenger Front 36.5"

Why not just crank the coil collars a couple turns down (increase ride height) on the driver side, or up (lower ride height) on the passenger side to even the truck out???

My woes are greater than yours

My passenger front is 1 & 7/8" lower than the drivers and the passenger rear is 7/8" lower than the driver rear. I am running the heavy duty OME all around. I have looked at trying the recall but my TE has hex bolts not allen screws/bolts. I am assuming that you turn them three revolutions to free the valves just like the LC's correct? I held off, hoping to avoid the $1,050 mistake spoken of earlier (thanks for the warning). :happens:

I am thinking that it has something to do with the rigid sway bar links on the opposite sides of the hydraulic rams. I am trying to find someone/way to have some longer ones made. If it works I will let everyone know as this has been very frustrating. My Toyota dealer has been little help saying that Toyota tells them that KDSS is not to be tampered with as it is a self learning system. I say it's a self leaning system.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

I live in Ontario Ca, and I have not found a dealer that can remove and replace my fluid on my KDSS. I even tried the Lexus Dealers around, none have responded to the emails sent to Service Managers.

By any chance does anybody have a service advisor at a So Cal dealer that know how to service a KDSS?

I made the mistake to open one valve too much when tried to set my suspension height, since i noticed I was a bit higher on the passenger side. Fluid spilled out on one fluid circuit, but it was not a large quantity. Problably 3/4 quart of a quick burst of fluid on my garage floor.

I can live with the slight lean on side, bud I do notice there more wobble when turning and going over bumps.

This is 2008 Land Cruiser.

Did you do the lift yourself? Sounds like maybe something was installed wrong or a mix up in spring rates to be that far off.Try re-doing the lift and swapping parts left to right to see if it leans to the other side and then you'll know that one of the springs is stiffer then the other causing it.

There is a procedure for leveling KDSS but it's pretty involved and not sure about special tools needed.I would NOT try this unless you know what you are doing and have the right tools.
From the Repair Manual.........
KDSS Problem:The height of the left and right side of the vehicle is different
After confirming the difference between the left and right sides, perform vehicle tilt calibration.
KDSS TILT CALIBRATION
(a) Remove the stabilizer control valve protector .
(b) Loosen the lower and upper chamber shutter valves of the stabilizer control with accumulator housing.

NOTICE:
When loosening a shutter valve, make sure that the end protrudes 10 to 12 mm (0.394 to 0.472 in.) from the surface of the block. Do not turn the shutter valve any further.
Do not remove the shutter valves.
HINT:

By loosening the shutter valves, the upper and lower chamber will be fully connected, and the vehicle height is corrected by the equalization of the upper and lower chamber oil pressure.

(c) Bounce the vehicle to stabilize the suspension.
(d) Check the difference in height between the left and right sides of the vehicle. Refer to Measure Vehicle Height.
HINT:

When the vehicle height of the left and right side of the vehicle is not within the specified range, bleed the air .

(e) Tighten the lower and upper chamber shutter valves of the stabilizer control with accumulator housing.
Torque: 9.0 N·m (92 kgf·cm, 80in·lbf)
(f) Install the stabilizer control valve protector .
3. INSPECT FOR SUSPENSION FLUID LEAK
CAUTION:
Fluid is pumped into the system at a high pressure of approximately 3 MPa (30.6 kgf/cm2, 435 psi). If a fluid leak is discovered, immediately release the pressure and repair the fluid leak.

(a) Perform a driving test.
(b) Check for fluid leakage from the parts and connections shown in the illustration.

Sorry to bring back old post. My 3 inch OME lift is installed and I have a passenger side lean. Took it to Toyota to have it calibrated and they told me it couldn't be done cause the pistons were at max travel. Has anybody been successful in the calibration process with 3" lift? I suspect they didn't want to do it due to liability not that it can't be done.
Thanks.

Thanks for the tips, very helpful. I had just finished fabricating adjustable sway bar links and removing the rear sway bar, adding adjustable struts, etc. So now it's fixed/eliminated. I caved before that and got the dealer to help out but it didn't work too well, hence the other drastic steps taken, thank OCD.

got a pic of the sway bar links you fabbed up

You guys might be aware of this, but the earlier Land Cruiser Prados that came out with KDSS had some leaning issues (to the passenger side) without any suspensions mods. There has been lots of discussion about this in the land cruiser prado forums, one is this one
Toyota Prado VXL 2010-2011 KDSS Lean Problem

Has anyone had success with the calibration that overland warehouse has the PDf for? I have substantial lean to the passenger side.

I was leaning to the passenger side as well. The driver side coilover had the spacer on it to compensate for the gas tank weight so I just swapped my coilovers left to right and now I'm good.
