So Tundra vs. 4Runner. Driven both with first hand experience. The Tundra is a beast. The 5.7 V8 is a fantastic motor and the Tundra is a very fast truck. The ride is a little harsh until you put some weight in the back and it smooth's out. The extended Cab's have plenty of room for long trips. Its quiet and comfortable. It is also very thirsty when running above 70MPH. MPG drops off real quick. Set your cruise on 70MPH and you will get around 19MPG. With all that said, its still a big pick-up, better suited for real heavy duty hauling, towing or plowing. The 4Runner, especially the Gen5 are about the best all around compromise. Excellent ride, fair MPG, good power, good towing and excellent trip ride for 4 people.
As a side note, I traded a loaded Highlander for a loaded Camry. I did not loose my shirt, in fact made money as bought my Highlander at 10K of Invoice and then worked them down more. Did the same for the Camry and the dealer wrote me a very nice check back.
So to me, if you can afford it, keep the Tundra and pick-up a 4Runner. If you have to sell one to get the other, go with what is closest to your everyday needs, just my opinion.
My brother has the Tundra for work and a 5th Gen 4Runner and FJ for everyday. He is also one of the smartest hardest working person I know, does not have a degree, works with his hands, runs his business and really enjoys telling Engineers how foolish they are when he unscrews up there plans and designs.
