Hello
My question is; anyone ever heard of a popped top camper installed on a 3rd gen? I have been on contact with Campteq, and with a 4 month lead time they can make one to fit. I like this idea, 3rd Gen's are still available commonly in Japan, if the vehicle goes crunch.
Going on 2.5 years with my 2001 3rd gen Hilux Surf, imported by myself. It has been a perfect base camp / exploring vehicle for us. Thanks to covid, 25,000 plus miles in the first year alone. Very impressed with the 3RZ, slow but better mileage (only a little) than both my 2016 Tacoma, 2010 F150, and a high mileage 2014 Escape (my daily D's these past few years).
I had played with the idea of doing this to a HZJ76. I've had 3 landcrusiers in the past, they are amazing, but expensive to maintain and definitely not an economical vehicle, gotta say more capable then we need. Plus we will spend 3 plus months driving to the Arctic next year, fuel prices are a consideration more than ever now.
