The 3rd Gen All Questions Allowed Thread

Hello

My question is; anyone ever heard of a popped top camper installed on a 3rd gen? I have been on contact with Campteq, and with a 4 month lead time they can make one to fit. I like this idea, 3rd Gen's are still available commonly in Japan, if the vehicle goes crunch.

Going on 2.5 years with my 2001 3rd gen Hilux Surf, imported by myself. It has been a perfect base camp / exploring vehicle for us. Thanks to covid, 25,000 plus miles in the first year alone. Very impressed with the 3RZ, slow but better mileage (only a little) than both my 2016 Tacoma, 2010 F150, and a high mileage 2014 Escape (my daily D's these past few years).

I had played with the idea of doing this to a HZJ76. I've had 3 landcrusiers in the past, they are amazing, but expensive to maintain and definitely not an economical vehicle, gotta say more capable then we need. Plus we will spend 3 plus months driving to the Arctic next year, fuel prices are a consideration more than ever now.

Keep ground clamp as close as possible to each weld you do. Keep path short.

It too easy not to disconnect both batt posts.

Welding PCK frame bracket I didn't disco battery, doing LCA reinforcement wires near by I did.
What LCA reinforcement did you weld on, a kit or just ran a bead against the tabs?

Anyone have experience with these new designed upper ball joint boot clamps?

I was expecting the piece of wire you twist to secure the boot like how the truck came with new.

I'm playing around with the piece but it's not easy to enlarge it so it'll fit over the boot. Seems like it'll have to be mangled and manipulated to fit.

Yep, you have to pull it straight, give it about 1 1/2 wraps around the boot and twist it tight. Eventually it ends up looking like you were expecting. Make sure the twisted knot is facing like so, else it may rub on and tear the boot when it gets compressed toward the side.

Perfect, thank you!

Looking for some help. Replaced my MAF and O2 sensors and still have P0172. LTFT’s are at -40.62 when off the gas. O2 sensor voltages aren’t making much sense to me but could that be because it’s rich? Stuck to try and see what my next attempt should be

How many cats/what emissions do you have? California or federal?

What year and engine do you have? What are your LTFT when idling and when cruising? LTFT when coasting aren't relevant. Did you replace both oxygen and air/fuel sensors? What brand did you replace them with?

Hey folks,

My question is what is this part?

I did the CV axles on my 2001 4runner 4WD today. After removing the old CV, I moved the hub/knuckle assembly to the side and this part fell to the ground. No grease on it. I can't figure out what the heck it is.

The strange part is in the meantime I did the CV on the other side and found nothing ressembling this part.

Any help would be appreciated! I feel like an idiot.

1999, 5vzfe auto 4x4 with locker. LTFT idling is constantly-40.26 and driving can range from -20 to -40.26. Replaced both O2 sensors with Denso units from Rockauto (#2344162). MAF was also replaced with a new Denso Unit

I’m assuming you are federal emissions?

Going to follow up my P0172 question with an update. Federal emissions, 5vz, auto with P0172. This morning going up a slight incline before it downshifted, I noticed some smoke out the back. Never appeared again, just for the 10 second instance. Assuming this is richness, could this be an injector just dumping fuel? I also looked on my obd2 reader and the Evaporative system was not checked, while other systems like spark and fuel were.

I just bought a 5th gen and I'm the second owner of a 2002 4wd Limited w 89k miles no accidents or paintwork.. All factory stock and I'm looking to sell.

Needs body work for dings and dents probably a couple k. Had a few rust spots and surface rust underneath. Incredible service history, oil changes etc. My question is, should I sell as is or spend about 4k to get it perfect, new tires etc and sell.

Or should I spend like 8k to 12k and really make it project with tasteful mods to then sell?
