First look over my new 99 SR5 - spotted some oil behind the transmission (?). What's leaking? Will get some better photos.
if that's motor oil then based on the location it's probably rear main seal or the oil pan. it could even be just accumulated mess from regular oil changes or a leaky oil filter.
if it's not motor oil, then the type of fluid will tell you exactly whats leaking (tranny fluid, power steering, etc.). It all looks pretty much the same once it's dirty.
With the third out of the housing just count the ring gear teeth and pinion gear teeth, then look up the ratioHey guys,
quick question here. How can I tell the gear ratio of my 3rd member when it is out of the truck? I have a e-locker rear end I got a month ago and I am trying to figure out what gear ratio it is. Since its a auto 1998 4runner it came off it's most likely a 4.30 ratio but I want to make sure it is or isn't. Obviously it's not on a truck or anything so I can't do the driveshaft wheel spin test. I currently have the 3rd member out of the housing, would I just count the teeth on the ring gear a certain way?
Thanks,
-GH
