Tundra suspension for 3rd gen 4runner

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew about using the 1st Gen Tundra 2000-2006 suspension for a 3rd Gen 4runner and how much it would lift/change. I was interested in the stock TRD coil overs with the progressive rate coil that the TRDs came with during that era. If anyone knows about just the regular package struts that would be super helpful too. I see people just swap the tophat off of the old strut on the 4runner and I would probably do that. I would also then just put different rear struts and coils to match but I would try to use a 3rd gen specific but if anyone knows about anything else let me know. I was hoping for about 2 inches of lift maximum.

What specifically do you want to know? I still have the front end of my SS 1.2 which has exactly that, but I swapped out my rear setup for something totally different.

I was just curious if I were to put the TRD coil overs on the 4runner about how much lift would I get? It seems like people use the Bilstein 5100 for a 00-06 tundra and the TRD coils and they can get about 2 inches on the lowest setting. I was just wondering if I kept the stock shock and coil how much it would give me. I like the idea of the progressive rate coil people say they ride nice. I have seen on youtube someone just use regular coilovers from a tundra and get like an inch and a half or so.

Generally about 2-2.5 inches on the lowest perch, the thing is if you lift the spring up a few perches you're going to create such a harsh angle for your axle, bind your CV's and more than likely yield a really harsh ride quality. They work well when paired with the 5100's, which is what I've got and have had on my truck for almost 11 years. They're still holding up just fine.

Sonoran Steel, it's a company that uses the Tundra springs and other Toyota parts for complete suspension kits.
 
I'll check it out there is a part truck right near me from a fairly low mile 1st gen tundra TRD package you think I could reuse that truck's front coilovers and just put that on with my old tophat? and not get the 5100s? I would then get rear coil spring to match the front. I did a little more research and a guy used a tundra struts on his 3rd gen that are non-TRD and it gave him like 1.5 inches so might give it a shot. seems like a lot of ppl like the tundra suspension idk
 
CV axle joint rebuild

I know many of us have rebooted our OEM CV axles but has anyone replaced the inboard tripod joint? My CV boots were ripped when I bought the truck in February of 2024 and at 319k miles I figure that the joints likely are compromised. I can’t find a straight answer anywhere online or in the forum and was wondering if anyone else has gone down this route.

What is the correct Screws needed to hold the rear windshield wiper?

Last time it rained like 3 weeks ago I was at a stop light i switched on my rear wiper only for it to fall off.
 
2001 4runner 3.4 overheating probems

Hello, hope I am posting this in the correct thread as this is my first post. I recently purchased another 3rd gen 4runner and am having trouble with figuring out why it is overheating. I purchased this one from a man I know fairly well after him letting it sit for 2 years. He has previously replaced the water pump, radiator, thermostat, and fan clutch. All within 500 miles of me purchasing. Not showing any symptoms of bad head gasket and he showed me it was leakdown tested and compression tested by a local shop. Half of the radiator is cold while top half is hot guessing it is not circulating or thermostat is not opening? I bled the system multiple times thinking that may be the problem as well flushed the radiator. Internal clog? Water pump failure?

hi all - i just got a 2000 highlander 5speed and i love it. one small issue: i have a dead fly sitting in the gauge cluster, clearly been there a while. what’s the best way to get it out?

i assume i’ll need to take the cluster out and remove the plastic guard thing, any recommendations? not sure how to get it out of the cluster once the plastic is off… thanks!
 
3rd Gen V-6 thermostat...

On 3rd Gen V-6, the thermostat had been replaced with a non-OEM thermostat, which lacked a jiggle valve. If you take off the thermostat housing at any point in your investigation, make sure that the thermostat has a jiggle valve and that it is oriented correctly. The absence of a jiggle valve MIGHT cause the cooling system to keep air in it instead of coolant.

It won't be too hard. You need to start at the lower dash pad and work your way up. 10mm socket and a decent JIS (or philips) screwdriver is all you need.

Once you get the cluster out, the front 'glass' is easy to remove once you have it in your hands. I'd suggest having some 'canned air' in hand to remove dust from inside the cluster. Avoid wiping anything inside the cluster since you can damage the flat black finish.

Coolant leak in my 02 4runner

Hi there everyone, I’m new to this forum and this is my first post… I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask this. BUT, I have a bad coolant leak, soon as I put in fluid it starts dripping/pissing out. Started slow but couldn’t find where it was coming from till I finally took it to a friends shop yesterday.

I found the leak, but I have no idea how to fix it. If you’re looking into the engine compartment from the front of the truck, the leak is to the left of the thermostat housing. Hopefully I can attach pics, but after I took of the timing belt cover, I could see a “channel” of some sort (not sure if channel is the right word) that leads to a “lip” where the water drips out of. I will attach pics with the channel and lip circled. If anybody knows what this is and what the solution may be, I would greatly appreciate it. I blew into the overflow hose to pressurize the system, and there was definitely a leak coming out of the lip. It had already been leaking there but this made it obvious. Originally I thought it was coming out of the thermostat housing, but I believe it was just dripping down from the lip to the housing.

I’m not sure what that channel is and can’t get in to see what the lip is or if there’s any way to seal it up. Not sure if I’m missing a plug or if there is a crack? Any input would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help!!!!

rubber rejuvenator

so I would like to refresh all my door seals etc and wondered if anyone had any luck with some kind of rubber rejuvenator
and no armorall is not it
 
Anybody recognize these?

I've had the center console out, replaced the Ebrake cable, replaced the rear axle housing, rear brakes, rear wheel bearings. Anyway after getting it all back together the c clip was in the back and the B shaped thing was in the center console. Any ideas?

Grease help

I have a 2001 2wd and want to grease the driveshaft for my first time. It's been at least 25k miles since last done. That's when I started doing my own oil changes and I'm hoping the oil change place was doing it once in a while before that.
The Toyota manual I have only mentions 4wd, but says use moly grease on slide yoke and double cardan joint. And regular Lithium base on spiders. Do I even have spiders? If so, there's no zerks.
I've already bought moly grease and am hoping you'll tell me I can just use that on both of these fittings.
In the pics the zerks are pointing upward out of view, but I'm pointing to the equivalent spot on the other side. There's only 1 zerk at front, 1 at back.

-What are these joints technically called?
-Is moly grease appropriate?
-Approx how many pumps at each and same for both?
-Or pump til I see or hear grease coming out?
