The Smokey Build

Well this is the replacement runner I got after my friend rolled my 99.

What a great deal. $2200 bought sight unseen and was told that it had a bad motor. The original idea was to swap my 99 power train into it and I would be back on the road. Picked it up and the mechanic who had it told me that it had a blown head gasket. Trailered it home and began to look it over. First thing I did was pull the dipstick and found that the motor had between 8 and 9 quarts of oil. So I changed the oil and began to check things out. I can not find anything wrong with the engine. The Supercharger nose cone bearing is making noise but that is no big deal to replace a bearing and seal. I am going to keep an eye on things but no knocks, pings, no coolant in the oil, no pressure in the cooling system, no oil in the coolant.

by the way my wife has named this runner "Smokey" for several reasons. One it smoked when we first bought it, second the previous owner smoked in the runner every day for 13 years, and finally my favorite the thing will smoke the tires right off the rims

I'd also suggest taking from the 99- headlights and corners, radio/HVAC trim and center console trim.
If I were you I'd also take the entire drivetrain from the 99 and keep it as spare, considering you have 183k blown miles. Plus it's always good to have an engine & tranny laying around that you know is good.

My Runner is the same way. PO smoked in it so much the windows had a yellow film. I battle the smell constantly with air fresheners and deodorizers. L(

Well guys Im sitting at DMV waiting to get my new plate and registration because it passed emissions without a blink. Still pinching myself over this. Thanks for all the thoughts, this is gonna be a fun build.

Congrats on the purchase man. That's a score right there! :bigok: Since you're at the DMV, it got me to thinking... are they going to charge you taxes on the amount you paid, or on the book value? (Not sure how it works in AZ, but in NM, they used to go off the amount on the title/bill of sale, but then people started writing in lower values than they paid... DMV caught on and started basing taxes on book value..... :wtf

Also, I'm curious, how's it running now? Are you getting any ping? You guys are at around 2500 feet elevation right?

Those betty boop stickers remind me of my boss... sometimes he drives the wifes SUV in to work and we give him crap about 'em.

In AZ you don't pay sales tax unless you buy from a dealer. We pay an annual property tax on the vehicle as part of the liscensing and registration that is based off of the NADA book value (just learned that today) so my total today to get it titled and registered was 12.50 for emissions and 61 at DMV. So not bad at 73.50. As far as how it runs. Well it is pretty amazing it runs strong. I am getting a little ping if I romp on it when I'm under 2500rpms. And I am getting a growl from the nose cone bearing in the supercharger. A URD 7th injector setup will fix the fuel issue and make sure the pinging stays away. And I found the part numbers for the bearing and seal for the supercharger so that shouldnt be to bad either. I can't wait to get this bad boy in the air with some real meats on it. It does need brakes as the rotors heat up quick and pulse pretty hard. Tundra upgrade here we come. I think it will look totally mean.
