tire swing from pathfinder

was at the junk yard today looking for random things "toyota" for fun on my day off and found a hood cowl vent piece for my moms car that broke off in the wind on the freeway!

but walked past this pathfinder with a tire swing on the back which looks promising to MOD up and fit to a RNR>.

what is everyones opinion/personal experience on taking a piece like this and customizing it to fit on a 4runner??

I thought about installing one of these.

You would have to somehow reinforce the sheetmetal of the body otherwise over time that swing out tire carrier will literally rip itself off the truck taking sheetmetal with it.

Sure you could do it, but be careful with welding, the sheetmetal is thin and it would be easy to blow through it. And even if you don't blow through it, you're likely to discolor the paint from the heat.

It brings back memories of this thread to me for some reason.

IMO, aside from the JDM Hilux Surf piece or a custom bumper with carrier, the rest just look slapped on. It's not worth drilling and welding into clean sheetmetal.

I'm pretty sure I've seen the pathfinder tire carrier used on other vehicles.. maybe even a 60-series land cruiser. I'll see if I can find any info.
