TJM Snorkel for 5th Gen?

Install update, (this is my 3rd snorkel install, one on 3rd gen runner and one on 2nd gen xterra). This is by far the worse! Do yourself a favor and just buy all the clips from toyota that hold the fender flare on (and hope you don't break too many tabs off the flare itself). Also, might as well order the fender liner clips too. To make matter even more interesting the paper template does not line up at all. If you line it up with the door and A pillar you should be OK. Otherwise, the fit is good and the mounting is pretty easy.

Why did you pull off the fender flare? I’ve done several of these and the arb’s and the TJM is far easier than the arb to install. The square fender liner clips can be tricky for someone doing it for the first time but as I’ve had much experience with those clips, I’ve found angled pick tools work well to push the two side clips in. As for the paper template, maybe it isn’t clear but if you line it up with the body line in the top of the fender near the a-pillar and the door/fender line you’re good to go. You know.... I should have applied some critical independent thinking vs just blindly following directions b/c I think you are right.... the flare does NOT need to come off! FML. But ya, the snorkel itself, the mating of the two tubes, and putting the nuts on the studs are not as bad as others. Still give yourself 4hrs.

Yeah it may be different for someone who doesn’t do them often. Directions like most should be considered “general guidelines”.

Sweet 4runner. I am starting to like the look of this snorkel. Sorry for going off topic but what suspension are you running?
I was thinking the exact same thing when I first saw it. I like that they utilized the windscreen as a sort of funnel to maximize air hitting the intake mouth but you gotta think, that also means anything else that hits your windscreen is potentially being funneled into there too, like oh idk, a tidal wave of water if you hit a deep enough puddle at the right speed.
Man I wish this style of snorkel just had a “normal” intake. And I don’t see a way to retro fit an arb style intake to this snorkel body, right? Another thing that scares me is heavy thick snow. I live in Colorado and have been in some crazy snow storms. Wonder how this snorkel would handle sticky flakes.

That's the downside with this snorkel. I would not trust it while driving in a snowstorm. It is basically funneling the snow directly to the intake opening, which would most definitely clog it.

If you are worried about it, you can stick a oiled sock to your snorkel and be done with it.
Although I did drive it through a snow storm, and monsoon rains without a dirty sock on my arb snorkel and I didn't have any problems.

No worries about snow getting into the snorkel. The issue arises when snow packs down at the head, blocking air flow.
I’ll let you guys know, I’m up in AK and am out year round. Pics and write ups to come as I experience different winter conditions.

Mirrors my experience exactly, those liner tabs were a nightmare and I lost one from inside the flare too.
I was feeling pretty f*(&^ing terrified as I drilled the fender hoping that I'd made the right call on which template edge to ignore. also seemed pretty much impossible to get a nut on the upper snorkel stud inside the fender, it's tucked wayyyyy up high and pretty much touching the adjacent panel.
Tidy from the outside though, engine bay too and the internal section is a good fit. I'm very happy with it.

Any updates on the whole snow dilemma? I think its a valid point that needs to be tested.

Been getting decent amounts of snow up here and have been daily driving on roads and breaking trails last weekend without any snow packing in and no moisture in the box.
I will say that if it snows while you’re parked you’ll want to scoop the snow away from the intake before you take off.
Definitely has the potential to collect more snow than the ARB or Safari but I’m still happy with it, how it’s performed in deep crossings and like the way it lies better then the traditional snorkel.
Not a good picture of the snorkel but gives you an idea of the trail conditions I was breaking trail in.
