Tow Hitch and Roof Rack

So I was lucky enough to get the last 4Runner trail in the area however it didn't come with the tow package or a roof rack. At the time I thought it was no big deal but now that I’ve been searching on line I have been unable to find anything except for a Curt front hitch and aftermarket roof racks. All I want is OEM trailer hitch and Side rails. So if anyone knows where I can find any of these items online I would greatly appreciate the info.

Far as I know, a hitch and 2 wiring plugs are standard equipment on all 5G 4Rs.

You may find OEM rails in the 5G Classifieds. Some members have removed theirs.

I have no idea where you're located but the receiver is standard on all trim levels model year 2011 (and likely 2010) in the U.S.A.

OEM roof rack is about $1300, I'd advise finding a used set or buying an aftermarket setup

I was under the same impression however after looking through all of the paper work there is nothing that actually states those are a part of the package. Here is a summery I had received from the dealer before I purchased the truck. And don’t get me wrong I love the truck i just didn’t think it would be that difficult to find those items.

If you are in the USA, then someone is trying to rip you off. Because every trail comes with a hitch and a black roof rack - STANDARD.

Even the USA Toyota website shows both items as standard:

Black front and rear bumpers, door handles, power heated outside mirrors, overfenders, side rocker panels, mudguards, front grille insert, and rear license plate garnish; hood scoop, smoked headlamp and taillamp bezels, and black utility roof rack with rail system

Once again, if you are in the USA, go back to the dealer and tell them to give you what you paid for.

Your dealer provided equipment list includes:

mechanical center differential electronic hi-lo gear selection

Those two items are not available together. That center diff can only be had on the LIMITED, while the rear locker can only be had on the TRAIL.

If the dealer wants to stand by his word, tell him you're missing your TORSEN center diff!! LOL


Do you have an electronic hi-lo switch for 4wd? If so, you're in a LIMITED, not a TRAIL.

Did you buy this new? I see in the pics there are Nissans, VW, Audis, and Hondas in the background at the dealership. If it's not new, then the previous owner may have removed the rail (maybe they had clearance issues). I also see in your sig, it's a 2010 - which leads me to believe it's used if you just got it Aug 2011.

Doesn't look like Canadian. All Canadian 4Runners come with roof rails, hitch and running boards.

ikT4R: ask your dealer why roof rails and hitch were removed. If you wnat to get them I think you should eitehr order it from the dealer or find somebody who willing to seel it privately on this forum or e-bay. Sometimes people remove roof rails when they install 3rd party roof racks. Can't think why they removed hitch though.

Since it's a "Auto Exchange" I'm guessing it's a used vehicle so someone could have removed the rails. Not sure if you can remove the hitch receiver though.

I took the solver rails off my Limited since I have a Gobi rack now, so I have a set of silver rails for sale if you're interested.

I have a trail rack available because I have a Gobi not so I can sell trail rails and crossbars (both black seeing that I am unsure that you know difference in the 4R racks) if you are interested.

I have never seen 5th gen without tow hitch and would not understand why someone would remove one as it is so high (maybe to accommodate a slightly bigger spare?). I would not think it would be easy as it looks somewhat integrated.

Sorry I didn’t mean to confuse anyone, and I didn’t want to go into an explanation but here it is. I’m not in Canada it’s actually in Germany. The auto exchange is a dealership that sells new US spec vehicles to military and government DOD personnel overseas. They have a wide range of Auto brands one of which was Toyota and I wanted the 4runner Trail.

The vehicles that are on the lot are just show vehicles that the auto companies send over so you get an idea of what the model is like and you can put in an order or buy the one on the lot just like any normal car dealership. Now I don’t know exactly where the ones on the lot come from or who decides what options go in it. But when you order from the auto exchange the vehicles come from the US and you get to pick all the options you want.

I wanted to order the 2011 but they were unable to put orders in until July-August and then I would have to wait 4 months for it to arrive because it would need to be built and then put on a boat to be shipped over here. That was in April when I inquired. Then he told me he had a 2010 I went down to look at it, and it was not used except for 5 miles on the odo which was from a previous test drive.

So, I know those are standard items from looking at the Toyota website and I had brought this to the guy’s attention his words were: this is a show vehicle they send here for people to get an idea of what it looks like. I’m not a dealership and I cannot order any specific parts for your truck after its here. So my thought was the price was too good to pass up and it can’t be that hard to get the parts.

I was wrong, this is why I was asking if anyone here had an idea of where I could find these items. Okkis and DHeuschele I would be glad to buy your trail rack preferably yours Dheuschele because you have the cross bars however either way I would prefer to make the purchase on a secure site like ebay not that I don’t trust you guys but I think it would be in both parties best interest. I sent you a PM (at least I think I did as it was my first time doing a PM on this site).

I have no issues using eBay but did have some other reservations (shipping to Europe, if I list it on eBay I would place it up for bid to maximize the money I get for it and to cover the eBay fees, etc.).

Also for full disclosure I am currently missing one of the 4 clips. I have all other parts including the OEM screws and while it has been used a few times (otherwise I would have had no need for theGobi) it is in good shape. The missing clip would not be an issue for anyone except for you as their car would already have 4 clips (every 4Runner here comes with the 4 clips); in your case I suspect you have no clips (but I am not certain). I may be able to find the clip but I am not certain - I removed the rack about 1 month ago (I really was not concerned about the missing clip as I figured anyone I sold the rack to would not need any of the clips). The clip really is a little part that should not cost much but in your case it may be problematic (if you were in the states I suspect it would be less than $10 and this is even taking into account dealer high prices). The part looks like it should be a couple dollars but at dealer prices it is probably near $10 (just a guestimate). Someone on this site could likely say exactly what a clip costs from a dealer.
