G'day forum team mates,
Over the last few months, I've enjoyed seeing quite a few people, "4Runner aficionados", and just some really proud owners of what they consider to be some of the best built S.U.V.'s available today,,,celebrating the delivery of their brand new, 5th gen. "Bundles of Joy"!!!
But almost like clockwork, one of the 1'st things that they'll do for their large scale acquisition, is to remove the O.E.,"Horse & Buggy" Wheels, only to purchase a tire, that's worthy of supporting such a High-end, $50,000 +/-, S.U.V. investment.
Now, just for clarity, I too have have replaced the O.E., Geolander G96B, 245/60/R20's to upscale to the much more widely recognized and proven, GoodYear Eagle LS-2, 275/55/R20 (All season); No lift, No rubbing, No problem!
But, there seems to be a bit of confusion wrt Toyota's rim size designations; Not the most logical or user friendly I.D. system. So, just for clarification:
The "7J" rims for instance. The 7, does not represent the width of the rim, but the series {as in 7 through 7.5"}. For example: A 7J X 17, as on the SR5 or the T.E. works out to be a rim that's 7" in width X 17" in diameter.
But the same 7J X 20 on an L.E., measures out to be 7.5 inches in width, and a 20" diameter. A 7.5" width, X 17" rim for an SR5, or T.E. will be expressed as, 7-1/2 J, stamped on the inside of the rim casting.
So, a 7J on an O.E., L.E. will be 7.5 inches wide and 20" in diameter (Not 7"); Hope this helps somebody, just for clarification.
