I know for me, NOT having to worry about adjust ability and maintenance is a big concern. Install and forget.... other than the fact that I am going to have to swap coils once the armor starts to come. I do mainly expo trips with some technical stuff in-between, having shocks that are pretty much worry free is appealing to me because I don't have the time to constantly tinker with my shocks and the "set" unit shocks don't take as much of a beating from the salty winters up here. Threads on adjustable coilovers aren't very adjustable when they are rusted solid.
Mind you, if I lived in Socal like you and had tons of technical trail close by and some sand etc.... I would probably have gone rebuild able c/o for sure!
The Icons are pretty much install and forget it. The only time you need to tinker with the CO's are when you add weight and want to change the ride height. So in a sense, once you got armor you'll have to do more work now than you would had you installed a set of coilovers. I personally worry much less about having a quality 2.5" shock than having a mono-tube. Mono-tube shocks aren't nearly as durable. I've seen quite a few failed mono-tubes, but have yet to see a good coilover fail (not that it can't happen, just haven't seen once fail yet). As for the rough winters, Icon has the option to coat the shock bodies to prevent any corrosion so you can still adjust the ride height.
Did you get these from someone in colorado by chance? I just ask because I saw a set just like these on craigslist for a while.so i picked these up over the weekend, they are older downey coilovers. threw them on and they feel great, 700 lb springs they were cheap so ive decided to run them till i find some real coilovers
rebuiltable for sure 60 bucks to rebuilt vs 1200 to get new ones
The ToyTec do hold up to a pretty good amount of abuse too...
i know a rebuildable is gonna be the way i should go
no got them from a guy in long beachDid you get these from someone in colorado by chance? I just ask because I saw a set just like these on craigslist for a while.
