Trail Center Trim on SR5 and Limited

Why? Because the upper portion, underneath the cup holder/change pocket piece, there's a layer of plastic underneath that doesn't match. You'd have to dremel one for the other and hot glue/super glue it.

Therefore, if you want to change the scratchy silver plastic trim on the SR5, the BEST OPTION is definitely to spray paint it yourself.

While its clearly missing the upper portion, did you try to install it any way to see if it would work?

It doesn't fit. Even if you dremel it, the right side doesnt have the proper attachment holes for a secure fit. You'd have to take apart the whole silver (sr5) upper trim part and replace the trail trim part. It would be like a transplant and too complicated for the worth.

It's basically missing essential fasten holes to make it a clean replacement.

Way easier to just paint the damn thing yourself. I"m gonna return it.

I understand what you are saying. It certainly doesn’t look like it secures well without the added plastic, but I have to wonder what’s holding that area down properly in the trail ?

Have you ever used vinyl wrap? I know it sounds like a pain in the ass compared to spray paint...but hear me out.

I wrapped every trim piece in my last vehicle (BMW M235i) with faux carbon fiber wrap (door grab handles, center console, dash pieces). It is a little more difficult to apply a vinyl wrap rather than spray paint, but I personally believe that the outcome is way better and its cleaner that spray paint. The vinyl wrap is much more scratch resistant, it wont chip if you hit it with a watch/cellphone/etc, and it is easier to get a prettier result (don't have to worry about running paint, paint bubbles, paint cracks, wait for paint to dry, etc). I also like the fact that it is easily removed if you want to replace it, or want a different color later down the road. Spray paint will obviously need to be sanded, and re-painted if you wanted to change it, which is very time consuming and messy in my eyes.

If you do the job correctly by cleaning the surface, using a heat gun when needed, and stretch the wrap over the edges, it should last for a very long time. Just my 2 cents, best of luck refinishing the trim piece!

It's the manual transfer case. It' s open and there's a leather attachment that slides into the space.

The top fit from the sr5 black piece (with the electronic shifter) doesn't 'snap' into the trim piece, and there's a gap that is too big for comfort. You can't take the black trim and snap it onto the trim because it doesn't fill the gap properly.

It is just a matter of figuring out the right part number for what you need. Like 2016 said above, the sr5 has the electronic shifter, I actually ordered one with the manual shifter inlay on accident and had to return it for the one with the electronic shifter inlay, so I know what you need is available on there.

I have a 2016 SR5 4x4 and the silver center console is scratched up.

Slightly different subject, but along the same lines. I am not a fan of the carbon fiber in my TRD Off Road and am trying to locate the black/smoked gray shift cover plate out of the Trail Editions.

1) Does anyone know if the ones from the Trail match the rest of the interior of the TRDs? From pictures it looks the same, but I would like to verify.

2) Does anyone know the actual part number for the Trail vs TRD versions? I have contacted two dealers who have told me they could not verify color or exact part number. Basically, no vin=I have no idea, but even with a vin they can't verify the color (nothing personal, I know they only have what's on their screen). I believe the panel for the TRD models is 5880435550.

3) Better yet, does anyone want to sell me theirs? :becky:

I'll second the question but am also interested in knowing the part number for the regular silver panel with the electronic 4x4

No idea the quality of these, but there are covers available to cover your scratched or unpleasant color trims...

Looks like they have black and fake carbon.

I’ve seen these too but think the console from a nightshade limited is our best bet...anyone know the part number?
 
Yes, its black. I thought I found the part number before but never followed up on getting it. If I can find it again I would order. as my radio stack is black from a trail.
 
I've had the same issue with scratches, etc on the interior trim pieces. I like the idea of painting them but actually thought of using Duracoat rather than a rattle can. I think it would be much more durable.
