TRD has no plans for a 4.0L VVT-i Supercharger

I just called up TRD to ask about a supercharger for our engine. The guy I spoke to (who was surprisingly helpful) said there are currently no plans to build a supercharger for this engine (or this variant of the 1GR-FE). He said that demand plays largely into the decision to engineer such things (naturally), and that if people started calling or emailing TRD that might cause it to rethink its plans.

So if you're interested, better call or email and let TRD know.

Don't be a douche. You obviously called them so you have the number. You are asking others to join your call, so having the phone number, address, and/or web link would go a long way towards accomplishing your goal.

Relax. I don't recall asking anyone to help accomplish any goal; I was just relaying information that I received from TRD.

That would tell you if he was "helpful" in answering the phone with a Captain Obvious answer....or knowledgeable on up and coming engineering projects.

This is the first year for the new engine and there's not enough of them out there and people willing to spend the bucks to justify the research and developement........yet!

I say helpful only because he seemed knowledgeable, and although he said he didn't think there were any plans in the works, that he would check with his supervisors just in case. He put me on hold for a few minutes, came back and confirmed his suspicion, and explained a bit about how the process works and what might prompt TRD to consider building one. He also made a record of the inquiry, which he says is used to gauge interest.

Compared to the customer service people I have dealt with lately, I would say he was pretty helpful . . . .

Plans to make an SC or not, I wouldn't put much faith in the guy that answers the phone.

Rotrex should make one and than you can get one from URD. note that these are centrifugal superchargers and not a roots style.

Well ,I personally would'nt trust my $40k+ truck to an aftermarket supercharger for years to come that was'nt designed by Toyota.I'm crazy but not THAT crazy!

Toyota knows first hand the limits of these Dual VVT-i roller rocker motors.Maybe in 5-6 years when the warranty is up and alot more is known about these engines and what they can handle. Maybe that's just me because I love my truck and drive it everyday.I'll have to live with the 270hp til then.

Well considering they never made the s/c available for the 03-09 4runner but it was for the tacoma and fj they might not make one for the 5th gen. They might make it for the Tacoma when it gets the new 4.0 when it gets redesigned, and since the 2010+ fj has it now. It will be interesting to see what they do at this years sema show.
