Flood insurance can be purchased anywhere in the country and it covers a whole lot more then just a flood from a body of water. It is NOT included in any normal homeowners policy. Separate policy underwritten by the Fed's.

Most HO policies will cover water damage to a home, if there is damage to the outside of the home first allowing water to come in. (Or a pipe burst or appliance failure within the home), but what about those really heavy rainfalls which produce a river right up into your front door! No damage to the door, but water gets in the house and causes a LOT of damage. HO insurance will not cover, but flood insurance will. That is just one example, there are many others. Look into it. The insurance is rather inexpensive. Good piece of mind. Be Safe.
 
lost power for ~24 hrs. heavy rain and winds. some unsettling tree-swinging but only netted a few small downed branches; kindling.

hope others are well.

No, we have "Sink Hole" insurance......and I have to say, down here that is also a good one to have. At least you can check if there are or has been mining activity near your home. Sink holes can occur without warning and for no apparent reason around here. Kind of like an earthquake. Be safe an make sure your roof is shoveled....

Yep, I have flood insurance - you are telling me nothing new. :nerd: I was just curious about our northern neighbors that aren't used to dodging tropical cyclones and massive rainstorms every year.
 
Bergen County NJ tons of trees down no power

We lost power about 8pm last night and the elec company tells us Monday by 5pm to restore it. Not much rain def some wind! have seen about 6 cars crushed by trees driving around. Generator going for now. Hope everyone else made out as good as we did!!! :cheers:

I lost power at 3pm Monday, been without ever since. Not much rain in my area (Danbury) but there was a lot of wind yesterday. It's calmed down quite a bit since. I work near the coast so they've been closed down for the second day now. Staying with the folks for the time being since they have power :D

If last year's blizzard was any indication I probably won't have power back until the end of November...

i'll take a once in a generation earthquake any day...

I live in Ocean City,NJ and had to evac last Sunday. Luckily i have a friend i can stay with in Bucks Co. Pa. Still don't know when i can get back on the island. Hopefully tomorrow, but not looking forward to the cleanup....
Totally would have lost the 4runner in this one..
Looking at the pics online is NUTS.

Sorry for not reading more closely.

If you didn't have any luck, we have catalytic propane heater, a bunch of 1 lb bottles, and a 20lb+ propane to 1 lb adapter you can borrow for as long as you need it.
 
I've had it on my to-get list for a while but will be picking up a Coleman dual fuel burner shortly.. adding the lamp as well. Gasoline is something I usually have available or is more easy to salvage during the Zombie Apocalypse....

Great for camping too :)

Once in a while you find 1 lb propane tank adapters for the Coleman multifuel classic stoves. I have one, and it ups the convenience factor a few hundred percent. And it reduces the stinkyness factor too - unless you like the smell of camping fuel.

The other thing to keep on hand is a replacement pump kit for any of the multifuel Coleman units. And mantles for the lanterns, especially when overlanding.

Thanks Homeyclaus.. I was not aware of the propane adapter; the other items are standard fare for my camping/emergency kit. Currently have a set of butane (camping gas) gear; but finding the damn canisters is a pain on this side of the pond.
