Ultimate camping mod- rear window up / down and hatch pop with ignition off!

Finally installed this yesterday with the help of Jesse t, [MENTION=165350]nytosc[/MENTION], the OP
Everything works except the hatch release doesn't pop open freely all the way
Kinda like when you close a door lightly n then finish closing by pushing
If I push the button a couple times or hold it down or push button n hatch outward, good to go but according to OP-nytosc, it should pop on open
He mentioned checking my grounds (as far as I can tell, connections are solid...like I said it all works but the full hatch mechanism)
Wanted to give him a break n see if anyone else had the same issue n something dawned on em
Couple things, I grounded it using a different bolt, in the rear 1/4 panel? not the one near the roof but the one about a foot below the one shown in directions
Also my rear paneling isn't back on the car in case I ran into an issue...could the dismal "weight" of the paneling give the hatch the momentum it needs to pop outward more
I'm sure I'll be back in touch with jesse, who really is right on top of it with making this guy n answering very quickly simply patiently

I have the same issue, although I dont really mind. I just double tap it while pushing out. I'll eventually get around to re installing it all once I put some sound dampener in the rear panel.
Also... if you dont re install the membrane in the panel you get some fun issues when it rains HEAVY. Haha, went on a day trip in a heavy storm and rolled the back window down when it cleared up for a bit. Got some gas and some provisions for the drive home when it started pouring again... tried to use the key in the door to roll it up but NO DICE! Luckily the button on the center console worked.. lol.

Didn't have to mess with the film membrane...less your talking bout the sound dampening you did
I'm curious if other 5th gens, mines a 16 to be stupid specific, are able to push the exterior oem hatch button, not press n pull upward, just push the button let go n the door opens/unlatches totally...mine just stops at the halfway open/closed point, regardless of the mod

I had a bold come loose from the rear hatch so I had to remove the membrane to get to it and left it off cause I wanted to make sure everything installed smooth... then I got lazy. Ha.

I want to make sure my kits that I am shipping do not have problems. When you state you are having the same issue, can you clarify? To me it sounds like it is working properly.

I am reading this and it sounds like you'd like for the hatch to pop open- am I understanding that correctly? If so, it sounds like you are looking for a power liftgate which is not what this kit gives you (a power lift gate would be a major modification).
What this kit does is releases the lock mechanism to allow you to open the rear door from the inside. On my 4th gen, there is a slight pop when you press the button, but it does not in any way give you a power liftgate.

I love this mod. My dumbass tapped the wires too hard so the key slot stops working, but the buttons do. To explain, the key on the hatch does not roll the window up and down anymore, but the hatch release above the license plate still works. I must have tapped the wires too much and only the button is making contact. I'll go back in and most likely solder the wires when I relocate my camera.

This is how the OEM release works, too. Try to open the hatch from the outside by tapping the button by the plate and the hatch will only pop out slightly. You have to hold the button as you lift the hatch to clear the locking latch assembly. Interior button is the same. Hold it down while pushing the hatch open. Once it clears the locking latch you can release the button.

I ordered mine this week and it arrived a few days later on Saturday. Installed it in a couple of hours that afternoon, and it works exactly as advertised. The kit has everything you need and very detailed instructions - I could never have figured this out on my own, so very much worth the $50 to me. I appreciate the effort it took to put the kit together for hacks like me, and the fact that it all worked on the first attempt is a testament to the quality of the instructions.
The ability to open and close the window and hatch from inside will make access through the hatch much easier.

They clip over the window glass and then you roll them up into the channel.

I received my kit last week. installed it this weekend. Had a couple questions with op quickly responded to. thanks for the help.
I did modify it a bit. I did not like the idea of mounting the buttons to the trim. so bought a project box from fry's and mounted the buttons in that. I tuck the box away into the jack storage hatch. I had to modify the wiring a bit to make best use of the length provided. The plan is to use velcro tape to mount it under the window when in use. keep it tucked away with the jack for everyday driving.

Has anyone mounted one of these on the outside of the truck? It would be great to be able to open and close the window from the outside without having to find the key. Perhaps there is a hidden spot under the bumper that could hide this?
