Ultragauge 1.3 MX Question - Trans Temp??

You will need a '99-'02 4Runner for that to work. 96-98 don't report trans temp via OBD-II.
That's very similar to the Scangauge II codes to get trans temp, which makes sense, I suppose...

A couple months ago I tried ~100 different combinations of codes and couldn’t get any to work, I never thought of using RCtrl = 00. Honestly it doesn’t make much sense to me since setting the RCtrl at 00 seems like no values in the Mtch packet are being compared.
Could someone please confirm that the trans temp is reading accurately? Maybe someone with a ScanGauge and UltraGauge MX? This would be fantastic if it works.

I have an 01 4 runner and use the torque pro app to read temps. So it looks like I have to send my ultra gauge back to get swapped for the MX since my programming features aren't working even after factory reset and troubleshooting with customer support. Bummed but to be continued.

Alright I was able to try RCtrl = 00 and it seems to be working.
I was reading through the UltraGauge Supplement, and it says that when you set RCtrl = 00, then no examination is performed with the request packet and the first correct response it displayed. Basically raw unfiltered data is being read with RCtrl = 00. Since RCtrl is used to examine specific bytes within the packet, setting RCtrl = 00 may not be displaying the correct information. Just messing around I was able to get readings with RCtrl = 01 and 02 also. I haven’t tried other values yet.
So it’s important that someone can verify these readings are accurate. I haven’t driven far with RCtrl = 00, but I have with RCtrl = 01, and it seems accurate (around town my temp was ~155F, and when purposely shifting while going uphill at ~40mph my temp got to ~180F). I’ll have to see if RCtrl = 00 gives me the same responses.

Display coolant temp, air intake temp and trans temp at the same time. When you start up a fully cold truck, they should all match (within a few degrees). That's really the only check you need.
Also, keep in mind that the stock temp sensor is on the outlet of the trans to the cooling circuit. It is the HOTTEST that the fluid gets in the trans. That is why there is such a quick change in temp when the torque converter locks up.

I had the same thought has phattyduck. Early this morning before starting the truck to go to work, I tested different values for RCtrl. I tried 01-09 as well as 0A, all of them had no change, same temp reading.
I set it to 02 & went to work. Temp readings were pretty much the same as what I got yesterday with RCtrl set to 00. Got to work & with the trans at operating temp I played with the values again, tried 00-06, no change in temp reading also.
Now I'm not sure if RCtrl might possible change how fast the temp reading responds but it didn't seem like it.
Ambient temp has been low 60s. Around town I get 135-150, will drop into the 120s on the fwy. Going up the hill going home I get up to 170. I do have a trans oil cooler mounted after the stock heat exchanger.
I did a quick search last night a found someone with a SG & T4R report they were getting 150 around town with ambient temp being 60. I'd like to find more data from SG users.

The stock cooler keeps the trans temps around 90-100*F above ambient if the torque converter is locked. It goes up with acceleration, driving around town, etc.
Your numbers look about right for having an extra trans cooler in place.

The parameter you are accessing is Service 01 PID B4. That is not defined in the OBDII standard. What the ECU is returning when that PID is accessed is a total mystery. It could be anything and is completely proprietary to Toyota.

No surprise there. UG has always advised not to get the MX for ISO-9141 as they say it's not compatible.... well more like they don't care to offer any support for any M-gauges. But whatever, it's understandable.
Out of curiosity, I plan to bypass my oil cooler one day & see how high the temp readings get.

To me if your trans temp and engine temp and IAT temp all line up after sitting overnight it’s accurate.

I figured I would say, here is my location for my ultra gauge. Answer, yes, I did drill into the A-pillar. To mention, the window mount continuously falls off. I got tired of it and did this with my FJ. Anyone wants some details of taking off the A-piilar, I can share. Those videos were hard to come by. Please no hate, not a mechanic, just rigging stuff as a lot of us do
