I contacted Ultra-Gauge and had the following conversation with them:

Dear UG,
Recently, a few of us on T4R.org and tacomaworld.com forums were able to figure out the transmission temperature codes for 9141 protocol toyota trucks (1999-2004 4runner/Tacoma). The working codes are as follows:
TData: 686AF101B40000
TCtl: 85
RCtl: 00 (or any value from 00 and 0A)
RPos: 2808
Mtch: 41B400
X: 0009
/: 0005
+: FFD8
Out Format: 00
Ave: 00
Left/Right: 31
(for reference, these are the ScanGauge Codes for Tansmission Temperature):
TXD: 686AF101B4
RXF: 044105B40000
RXD: 2808
MTH: 00090005FFD8
The readings seem accurate, with trans temp reading ~150F after fully warm around town and ~180F when downshifting/upshifting while going up a long hill. After messing around with RCtrl, it has been found that the trans temp reading is unchanged with any RCtrl value from 00 and 0A, the temperature or response time is no different.
My question to you guys is: does it seem logical to you guys at UG that I could get accurate transmission temperature readings with these values (especially the RCtrl values)?
Thanks,
Jake

When TCTRL is 8x, many of the fields are ignored. This is because you are saying "This is a standardized parameter". When its a standardized parameter, MTCH and RCTRL are already know By UG

Okay, so it's likely (or at least possible) the readings accurate with those parameters then?

The parameter you are accessing is Service 01 PID B4. That is not defined in the OBDII standard. What the ECU is returning when that PID is accessed is a total mystery. It could be anything and is completely proprietary to Toyota.
