Umm..did I receive the correct LBJ bolts?

Sorta confused. So, I bought both LBJs and bolts from Camelback. The parts manager said that these are the correct bolts to go with: 90119-10933. However, the original bolts removed from my truck are flanged.

From what I've gathered online, the grade of the new bolts are the same grade as the old bolt, but the bolts themselves are different as you can see below.

Help, por favor.

The bolts you got are for years 2001 and 2002. You obviously have a 3rd Gen between the years 1996-2000. There's two different part numbers for the 3rd Gen years and here they are:
1996-2000 use a flanged bolt Part #90080-10066
2001-2002 use a bolt and washer (it's a little longer than the bolts for 96-00) Part #90119-10933.

Here's a video I did for my LBJ replacement and hopefully you'll find it helpful.

Discussed this bolt issue well in another thread not long ago including part #s. The bolts you received are for some 2001-2002 LBJ. The ones on my truck are the part number you received. I'm surprised that you didn't get the right ones, as those should be correct for your year.

I went ahead and just ordered #90080-10066 bolts since that's what came on my truck originally. I just want to get my original 230K LBJs off the truck as soon as I can for piece of mind.

Thanks for all the replies, guys.

By the way, Tim, I just stumbled across your video yesterday! Very informative. Thanks!

I wonder if that is why in the 2002 FSM it states that the bolts should only be torqued to 37ft/lb? I guess for the 01-02 recall these are the updated bolts used?

Thanks SFB for the info.

If it were me, I'd torque the bolts to 59 ft lbs like the previous years. There's inconsistencies galore in the FSM and I bet they made a mistake.

I didn't notice that the dealer replaced my LBJ bolts as part of the recall. Just the ball joints and alignment. Maybe I'm wrong. When I called the dealer to order new ones the other day, I gave them the part number for the older 4Runners and decided to just check and make sure I was ordering the correct part. Well, they looked it up by year and model and I had the Bolt with washer, not the flange bolt that I gave them the part number for. I ordered the bolt with washer and it Turned out that I ended up ordering the correct part in the end.

The OEM LBJ bolts that I got in 2013(from Camelback) were silver and were flange bolts. That rounded head one looks like a bolt for a seat or a fender.

*****Old thread revival*****

So I was probably pretty stoned the other night when I ordered these bolts for my 97Ltd, I must have missed the dual lower ball joint bolt # controversy because I ordered the ones with a washer. (TBH I don't even remember ordering them — I meant to order them of course, but it's foggy)

So anyways, I have these bolts sitting here waiting to go. Why can't I use Toyota bolt number #9011910933 on my 1997 truck? These are the bolts with washers that people are saying are only for the 2001-02 Runners. That's great, but I don't see why it matters if all similar equipped 3rd gen Runners use the same LBJs, e.g., 3.4L 4wds...etc. There is no specific "2001-02" LBJ that is different that I could find. Did I just miss it? Maybe I'm missing something obvious in my "condition"...

So same lower ball joints but different bolts depending on the year? But wait, maybe the knuckles are different! But they aren't, I checked those too.

Can anyone offer a convincing argument for why I can't use these bolts #9011910933? I don't recall what bolts are on the old ones now and I'm not going to reuse them anyhow. But I don't want to mess with ordering new bolts either if there is no convincing reason to.

I've yet to replace any bolts on my rig that are in good condition. Never understood the need people have in replacing lbj bolts. I've never heard or seen them fail jyst some people broke one maybe.

They are cheap, and people here are paranoid enough. But yeah, I never understood it either.

They will be fine to reuse 99% of the time. However, people have had failures of these bolts. Root cause of failure we may never know, could be improper torque, corrosion, etc.

Technically, anytime you torque, loosen, re-torque a bolt there is metal fatigue and stretch which adds up over time and weakens the part. That's why the official recommendation is to replace these anytime the LBJ is removed.

I've never seen any official Toyota recommendation on the need to change these bolts. If they had to be changed, they would be marked with a diamond on the attached diagram. They are not. Do you have a contrary source other than paranoid posters?

Toyota doesn't even spec threadlocker for these. If they did, it WOULD be non-reusable as Toyota only uses one-time pre-applied microcapsule threadlocker.

Lol, come up to a salty state or Canada. These bolts are ****ing shit.
They are way too soft and they round like butter.
Never have I seen a worse bolt than the one in my brother's tacoma's lbj.
My friend bought a 4runner last year and went to remove his lbj a few weeks ago. PO glued the busted bolt head into the hole. Somehow, someone broke the bolt in half so it's stuck inside the knuckle.

Must be that. I have done a few LBJ swaps and bolts were all fine.
