USA Spec Ipod Adapter

The rubber grommet I got from Home Depot. I just searched through till I found one that was the right size.

Here is something to think about. I did this install first when I had my V1. The cable for that one wasn't too big so it was easy enough to keep the hole small. Since then the cable has changed (from USA Spec) to accommodate the 3G, 3GS and 4. The cable is thicker (has a thicker suppressor or whatever those things are). Since I already had a hole it was nothing to make the hole bigger (which it was pretty big). But you might want to rethink it. Check your cable and see how small a hole the cable will work through. If it's approaching an inch wide then I probably wouldn't do it.

Underneath (where you'll be drilling) has a ton of extra plastic that makes it a pain to drill through. Lift that part up and feel underneath the tray. You'll see what I'm talking about.

I installed the USA Spec PA-15 last night and I must say, I'm very impressed. I love how it will automatically start playing when i plug in my iphone 4. What I'm loving about it it that it will let you play Pandora on your iphone in any mode and the really cool thing about it is is that you can actually move from song to song in Pandora when you are in iPod Direct mode. No more reaching for the iPod when Pandora brings up lame songs!

I drilled two holes during the intstallation. One in the center holder like the one above and one in the center bin. I installed the grommets too (Thanks RevoRunner!) The center holder has the iPod cable coming through it and the center bin has the AUX acble coming through it.

RevoRunner - thanks again man. Yeah, that square piece of plastic under the holder was SUPER annoying. I researched and looked around and saw no purpose for it whatsoever so I just completely tore it out so I could move my iPod cable in and out really easy. I drilled the hole a little bigger but not too big. I found out I could have drilled smaller and just pull the grommet through with the cable instead of putting the grommet in first but oh well. For those who are wondering - a 1/2" to 3/4" hole should do it for the iPod cable.

I'm looking at doing this for my iPhone 4 and the USA Spec PA-15. I have a few questions:

-Can I add a mic to the PA-15 to enhance speakerphone calls and have the call routed through the stereo?

-I'm using the Navigon GPS software on the iPhone 4. Will it pause the music and pipe the voice directions through my stereo?

No, you cannot have the call sound routed through the stereo when connected to the ipod cable. However I think you can if you connect to aux headphone jack. I use Skype over 3G sometime and I can confirm that Skype does play over the car speakers, which is nice.

The Navigon instructions will play over the car speakers. Basically - any noise the phone makes except native phone calls will play over the car speakers when connect to the ipod jack.

Another round of tech support and 2 more installs and the problem is fixed. Its NOT because of a Canadian stereo, but some Toyota stereos do not supply power to the USA Spec through its harness. I had to splice into the constant power from the stereo.

But it works!

Your solution about the USA Spec might seem to work for my situation as well. I been beating my self trying to get both USA Spec & DICE Silverline iPod kit to work with my 2006 4Runner HU. The funny thing is the USA Spec worked when i initially hook all the cables up, after I put the dash & controls back together it doesn't work anymore. I ordered a DICE thinking that the USA Spec is bad, but the HU does not recognize it either, and I played a with all possible dip combinations on both kits. On the USA Spec I disassembled it and saw that the green LED never lights up leading me to think that the HU is not supplying power anymore which i have no clue why. I would like to try your method but do not know which cable to splice and which cable is constant power.
