Wanted: 2006 6 disk JBL head unit

I do not think we got off on the wrong foot. I was being sarcastic. I guess the smilies would have helped display the sarcasim.

Crap, I am such a bone head, I should have known, I got the HU and did the installation, when I was putting it all back together I noticed that the head unit was too big for the panel... My only guess at this is that I had a single disk HU and I bought a 6 disc HU which have different panels. However I am surprised at how easy it is to take the whole dash apart. Man that is easy... Well now I am looking for the 2005 6disc panel that fits around the head unit. Man what an expensive mistake... But I will fix it, I really like the radio, I hooked it up and it did work, the only thing is that it is too big for the panel... Man...

the bolts are 10mm and the radio frame screws are 8mm just incase any one wants to know...

link for removal of radio...

here are some pics on the next thread
they are in reverse order of installation

One last small thing I did was move the dif unlock over next to the RSC button, the gap bothered me, so I moved it...

Oh I see , my 06 came w/mp3 , WMA & Sat.

Did'nt know why the upgrade. Since you have not been here long enough there are many posts about Scion HU & JBL stuff. One of the first posts I saw modifications to the bezel may have to be done or an 06 bezel......apparently the search button does not work on your comp. ...lol

Some have made it look good to their taste others have not. Its plug/play but its the bezel thats caused problems for some from what I gathered.

Should have listened to me in the first place :biggrin2:

Were you able to test the sound of it ? I heard the JBL Synthesis has an amp built into it. Not sure though.

Any luck on the bezel ?

Oddly enough I did notice a sound difference, it was clearer and seemed louder. Yeah, I know, I should have listened, but I will fix this, it might take a while, but I will fix it!!!

OK so now I guess I can trade or buy one from some one,
4th gen
6 disc panel with the Hi/Lo switch...
Just the panel, no AC controls or buttons or switches
If anyone is interested let me know, thanks

BTW does anyone know what the dealer charges for just the panel? (also I am not sure what to call the piece so I am calling it a panel)

Hi HiVel-JR,

How much did you pay for the unit on eBay? If you cannot get everything to work out with the single CD center bezel, I will buy the 6-CD unit from you.

Good luck!

OK I just bought a Head Unit off of ebay, probably somebody on this forum sold it to me. Now comes the fun part, putting this bad boy in. I will post pics of the operation, should be pretty easy, a few members have already done this instillation.

I will let everyone know how the instillation goes.

I would check at the dealer to see what they want and then check with that Partznet.com place that advertises / supports the site. They are pretty cool and very reasonable on prices.

bcnland, I plan on keeping the Head unit, thank you for the offer... I am going to make it work, it may cost a little more, but I am going to make it work.
Falls thanks for the website, I will look, I bet the stealer wants 400 or more for the panel.

I will find out what the dealer wants Monday.

Dag-nabbit, I hate it when I am right. The dealer charges 399.06 plus tax, man that is over 400.00 dollars, but I did get the part numbers and the prices. Man that is a lot of money for a piece of plastic. The numbers are as follows:

there are two 2WD panels, but I did not get the numbers,
these are the two 4WD panels:

4WD w/ cd 55405-35400 399.06
4WD w/o cd 55405-35440 382.80

the parts manual is calling it a Panel assy, center finish.

I believe the manual refers to w/ cd as the 6disc changer and the w/o cd as the single disc/ tape deck.

this is all FYI if anyone is interested in doing this install

Falls suggested Partznet.com and I looked it up and they are selling it for 307.28, that is still a little much.

Time to search the junk yards...

I think this weekend I am going to try the rear diff breather install, it looks fun and cheap to do, the mechanics at the dealer said that it would not void the waranty... yeah right...

If anyone wants to trade with me I will pay the shipping both ways. Again I am looking for the larger panel that holds the 6 disc changer and has the 4WD Hi/Lo switch. I would like it to look like the one I already have. (see the pics) Mine is the smaller panel which fits most non OEM, after market HU/nav systems better than the large panel. The guy that I bought the head unit from told me the store that installed his nav system had to install a spacer to make the nav system fit with no gaps around the system . But he will not trade me for the fact he has it the way he wants it and I respect that. OK I know there is someone out there.

I think I have the same problem as you only the opposite. I had my aftermarket nav installed at the dealership and I had the issue with gaps around it as well. I ripped the guy who did the install a new one, ripped the service manager a new one, took my pit bull of wife with me and gave the general manager of the dealership an ear full. After all was said they were kissing our ass like we own the place. The dealer has promised that the install would be redone and that the subcontractor they use to do the install would get the parts needed to finish the install professionally. I was told that I would need the center console of an SR5 to complete my install and have a finished look with out the gaps. So my center console will be swapped out. I will make sure that when its done that I get to keep the current console so maybe we can work out some sort of trade or arrangement.

My truck that has the nav is a 2006 Limited that had the JBL 6-disk changer in it. Do you think my console would suit your needs?

I think that it would fit believe it or not. As long as it is the 4 wheel drive panel with the selector switch for high and low 4WD here is the pic, must look like this, but with the larger opening for the head unit, and all of the switches and the AC vents come off. Well I will not get too far ahead of myself, but if yours is the right one, yes we can work out a deal.

Well after further research and using the search button, it looks like I will need the AC panel as well for a 6 disc... man this is not looking good right now.

Does anyone know if I will need to swap the AC panel as well?

Sharp4runr, thank you for the info, Yeah that is the one I read last night, I am a bone head, I wish I would have found your thread before I posted this want ad... would have saved me money, but being new to the forum I did not know what words to use in the search, I am getting better at the search, at least I think I am, also I am going to make it work, it may take time and a little bit of money, but I am stubborn and I am going to make it work... sharp thanks again for your link and info,

I love this forum!

On a different note, got any input on the rear diff breather install, I think I am going to try that in a couple of days... Have to gather all of the parts...
