WFO9 Supercharger Install and results thread

Unfortunately at this point there is no plans to make said kit for those with winches, however, the relocation wont be difficult. The key thing is to insure that you re-route the coolant lines properly. But you have plenty of space to mount the pump in the general area around the original location that wouldnt get in the way of the winch.. RSG is doing a write up on it as well. Your bumper shouldnt conflict with either the IC location or pump locations. Where the pump gets in the way is for the winch mounts.
Agree with this, but my particular bumper would not allow the pump to mount in the specified location (even without a winch). But there is plenty of other places to put it.. and it is very easy. It is just impossible for them to know where you will want it. The hoses are just 3/4" heater hose that is available at any auto parts store. I wanted smooth bends so I ordered a few bends and the same shrink wrap gates connectors included in the kit to make it look 100% OEM. You could get by with simple barb connectors available at home depot... and a few clamps if needed. Nothing complex about it.

Please correct me if i am wrong, but didn't Toyota switch to low tension piston rings in 2014?

Does Magnuson know if that's true?

I've never heard of any mechanical changes since 2010.. besides air injection being added (which is just an emissions thing). There were significant changes for the dual VVTI motors that started with the 5th gen and FJs in 2010. I outlined some of the internal differences with the dual VVTI version in this post.

That may be what you are thinking of. They moved to lower viscosity oil via cross hatching and some coolant flow changes. I don't think the ring tensions were changed, but they did use some different materials and the pistons did get lighter and are shaped differently. But that all happened starting in 2010. I really doubt 2014 yielded anything different. That is just not how Toyota does things.

Cool. Would love to see a pic of how you rerouted things. I m sure it's not too complex, just trying to get an idea of what to expect when I have to start improvising....

Sure, I pretty much picked the location.. and will take some pics and even a video to show the routing....I think the location should work for most aftermarket bumpers, but it may require some to be removed to get at it for install (it's very accessible on mine)... Here are some pictures and diagrams to explain the location I will most likely be going with. This would not be the ideal location on a stock bumper since there is too much in the way to get at it.... It's above and a little outboard of the front body mount... The white outline in the last pic shows the location best.

Put on the final touches this weekend. Just add ECU and coolant and she should be ready to go.. Hopefully just a few more days until it gets here...

Here is the pump and routing I decided on. The pump sits vertical above the drivers side most forward body mount. The feed hose runs down by the headlight. The output goes on the passenger side and I put some heat wrap on it to protect it (probably not necessary)

I did not follow the recommended routing in the instructions as I wanted it shorter and my bumper made it problematic....

Video of the routing.

I'd be interested if Magnusson could build a second tune for 87 Octane for my trips into Baja.

Because you'll never find anything higher than 87 and carrying ethanol or octane booster to do a 2000 mile trip off road would be comically silly and dangerous lugging that much around in the vehicle.

I thought you were going to get a Raptor anyway?

Temporarily use

Would 87 be harmful or just less power?

You can zip tie the bypass

Hey brother went over quite a few options with them yesterday. If it really came down to it you can zip tie the bypass so you don't go into boost. So if you end up in the situation where you don't have access to such fuel, it is safe to do the above. However, you never know, some other person may come out with other tunes however that would void the Mag warranty.

True, but hard to say how much that will limit boost. I will probably test this out when I get my ECU back.

Typically.. a blow off/bypass valve can't really bleed off that much flow at WOT. I've tried it before and it makes a difference.. but you still see a decent amount of boost Each configuration will be a bit different though.

Would methanol injection work? Methanol injection systems are dirt cheap - and windshield washer fluid is pretty easy to smuggle into Mexico.

Got word this evening that my ECU is shipping back to me tomorrow

Should have it by Thursday and should therefore have some results soon.

It actually would work. Debatable but it would work. I ran my Audi 1.8t for several years on the 100oct tune with 91 pump gas + water/meth and it ran great and was a blast.
EDIT: Washer fluid alone isn't enough though. You need 1 gal of ol' blue with 2 bottles of heet. That's about your 50/50 mix.

I've used it before also with great results, BUT
1. I always ended up running pure meth injection.
2. It was always on a blow thru setup
3. It ended up being a pretty complex setup and tuning process for me
4. The added benefit was amazing clean intake and combustion chambers
5. Dealing with the meth was always spooky. Can't let it touch your skin and if a fire ever does happen you can't see it... It does however evaporate quickly and does not hang on the ground like gas.

I'm guessing magnuson would not want you pushing any fluid through the TVS rotor pack due to the coatings on the rotors.. I'm sure some research could be done to figure it out what works on a TVS blower. (maybe a fogger plate). My gut feel is it makes no sense for this application.

I want this setup to be a simple as possible Put in fuel and go.... and never have to really think about it.... If you are going to be super remote with no premium fuel... carry an octane booster. Not sure what the best ones are these days, but TORCO always worked for me to get up to race gas levels. Other than that.. use a light foot and you should be fine in a pinch.

Funny thing is.. my truck has crap gas in it at the moment... but it's almost on E (I was trying to burn up as much as possible before I did the install). I will however fill up with a fresh tank of premium before I put my foot into it... I'm not concerned in the slightest bit about driving it around with junk gas in it... just need to avoid any boost.

Yikes! That is a long time with no ECU. I hope that wasn’t your daily driver!
