I finished up the Grillcraft Upper/Lower grill mods & "TOYOTA" emblem swap last night. I initially had the CustomCarGrill.com type upper grille (Diamond XXL mesh), but wasn't 100% satisfied with the fit and finish, and wanted to do the bottom grill, too.
I like how the Grillcraft grilles looked (tighter mesh) and were "finished" (the clean outer metal frame just looks more "finished" - more so than the DiamondXXL mesh with rough-cut ends).
The Grillcraft grills were also an exact fit - including the slightly curved contour. Granted they cost more than the DIY Mesh method (not too much more), but my T4R is certainly worth it! Used the 3M extreme double-stick tape to affix the TOYOTA emblem - not going anywhere!
No pics just yet (truck is filthy!), but it looks tons better than the stock grill IMO! Will be buffing the bumper and hood with some of that 2-stage black colored wax to lessen some of the lovely rock chips up there. Will take some pics next weekend...
Also just installed a USB port + 1/8" TRRS jack in the glove box for my Alpine Radio's Video iPod interface (makes it easy to swap from iPod to USB Stick, or 1/8" analog jack, or whatever). Also added a chrome Toyota exhaust tip around back.
FWIW - I thought I'd have to remove the entire front clip to get to the lower grille (as mentioned in other threads), but Grillcraft's instructions were accurate - you can remove the lower grille from the OUTSIDE using a small trim tool (and one 10mm bolt that is accessed by removing the plastic trim piece under the hood). Didn't even have to remove the upper grill assembly (did that part last weekend) to get to the bottom grill! I feel sorry for anyone that removed the entire front clip to do this simple bottom grill mod (took me about 20 minutes start to finish including the grill mod itself!).
As you were...
