What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Today I replaced the chrome handles on my T4R with OEM black handles to match the paint. I followed the instructions in Sp8Ball's thread. The first door I tried took me about an hour. Then the next three took about 20 minutes each.

Originally, I sprayed the handles with black Plasti-dip, and it looked great for a few months. But then it started to peel...especially on the driver's door since it's used the most. So, I ordered all the parts listed in this post and got to work today. It was pretty easy to follow [MENTION=48991]sp8ball[/MENTION]'s tutorial.

The one thing I would reiterate very emphatically is this: do NOT lift the door panel up after you get all the lower clips off. It needs to be pulled off straight back toward you. The black metal clips at the top that hold the top of the panel flush to the window channel are supposed to stay clipped to the interior top lip of the metal door frame. If those clips come off with the panel, you'll have to take them off the panel along with the window weatherstripping and reinstall that on the metal door frame so that you can push the door panel straight back on.

Wow that last little bit of info would have been very helpful when i sound dampened my doors. The whole thing took about 2 hours too long because i sat there struggling with those damn top clips. they came off with the door panel and for the life of me i couldn't figure out why the panel wouldn't go back on the way it came off.

Ha, yep. After struggling for about 20 minutes with it, I decided to do some more forum research and found a post somewhere that showed the window weatherstripping and black clips separated from the interior door panel. Aha! So I put those back on the door frame first and then popped the panel straight on, easy as pie. :doh:

Take a look at Plasti-Dip. It is a whole lot cheaper and very easy to do. So far my truck has been through the automatic wash twice and no problems. I figure that even is it does screw up once a year, it'll take d@mn near 10 years to pay for the wrap.

Definitely might go this route. Not in too much of a hurry to get it done. I never used plasti-dip and the pealing was one of my reasons for looking into wraps.

Exactly it was a $20 bottle opener and for some dude to just have a drill in his truck and reverse out the screws real quick and take off....nope. I just rounded them out to prevent theft and I can always grind them off if I want to remove it from the hitch for a future purpose.
