What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I combined my blinker lights with my marker lights to have a running light/blinker in one. And replaced my washer fluid reservoir with a coolant overflow, all in preparation for my AOR bumper that should be showing up soon!!!

Just ordered a low range off road gas tank and transfer case skids after bashing my factory gas tank cover into my driveline this last weekend 4 Wheeling at Snake Lake Trail in Northern California.

Actually this was yesToday, but i finally got around to plumbing up a little Tru-Cool 4454 (the bigger size I thought I wanted was not available anywhere) tranny cooler and a magnefine filter. Running in series with a newish radiator (188-192 max), the temp drop was immediate - from 180+ on the freeway to an unflappable 150. Grinding up a long grade that always put me near and often over 200 degrees, depending on ambient temp I couldn't get it out of the 170s. Makes me more confident climbing into the Sierra for a solo offroad camp-out this next weekend. I saw a 249 last time i wheeled. Never again, i hope. Bonus photo action that also happened to be on my phone: Coors will be available throughout the USA 'during the 1980s'! - the last Standard gas station in CA happens to be near the new Toyota parts center - the box the Tru-cool by Dana (actually made by Long), in Canada per sticker (but actually in Mexico) came in. Glad to keep it North American! No installation pix. That is all. Oh, my UltraGauge is throwing subliminal messages since i named my trans temp SEX T4R:
69.0 / 24.7

Edit - Ultra Gauge bracket by Spiker Engineering, of course!

Edit - Bought cooler from Oregon Performance Transmission Oregon Performance Transmission - High Performance Tranmission Parts - Free Shipping Super happy with transaction -It doesn't always have to be Amazon

took 2 days.....thanks to rust... I hate rust, but thanks to a sawzall, nut extractors ( love those ) BFH and an attitude of I dont care about the old stuff....
LBJ's (toyota) , OTRE's, one inner tie rod end, front pads, 99 talls ( toyota) all 4 corners, KYB's all 4, Diff breather mod, Rear o2 sensor (Denso),

Alignement wednesday ( earliest I could get) short test drive was a major improvement with no more tire rubbing or rattles on bumps.

The 99 talls were off my old lift and only had about 30k on them, the front struts were still assembled with KYB's and bought new KYB's for the rear ( old ones one was blown due to gross overweight)
picked up about 1 inch and got rid of the sag and lean :)

this should last till I either sell this ( if I find a nice 99 or 2000) or decide to keep and go with a better lift and replace all the suspension bushings.
while apart found my rear shoes are about shot. In the meantime Ill just keep doing small repairs.

4x Innovations Swingout Install

Finally added my 4x Innovations swingout bumper. Super easy install and so far loving it.

Cheers to no longer having to carry my tire on the roof rack. (My garage especially thanks me)

Been dialing in my driveline angles after a bunch of suspension and conversion work this past year. Turns out after you tilt the pinion to be 2 degrees different than your shaft it knocks things losses. And when settles requires readjustining. Set the pinion at 2 degrees off yesterday. Drove it around today and started getting clunky. Brought it home to dial in again and pinion rode 8 degrees off from yesterday after suspension was jiggled and bounced from driving. Also both rear shocks upper bolts needed to be retightened. Reset pinion to 0 degrees from drivline and tightened all things back down... tomorrow's test drive will tell me if all is well.

Finished replacing timing belt and associated parts included with kit. Installed new radiator and a transmission external cooler.

If you have to adjust your pinion angle again I would recommend jouncing the front and rear suspension if possible and recheck before locking everything in. Usually jumping on the front/rear bumper a few times does the trick. Maybe rock it side to side a couple times too for good measure. It helps the suspension settle into where it would ride.

I did bounce and rock it before tightening things down. Problem is the rear springs are stiff so it takes actual driving and bumpy roads to really get it going. Maybe I'm just weak and small though...

I bought one! Looking to travel over the Trans America Trail with it. From NC to Oregon, mostly offroad.

tried to get an alignment today :(
all they could do was set the toe. they said the cams are so frozen that they tried with an impact gun, and also a long cheater bar....said someone is gonna have to cut them out...and that is not something they can do...itss just a small shop that does tires and alignments...no major work. he said it was kind of typical of an old toyota up here.
he siaid that front end is really bad ( bushings) and the rack is on borrowed time. I knew about the bushings and the rack and was about to order. now I just might hold out for something better and pass this one on.
well at least its got new lower ball joints, OTRE's and shocks that I put in this weekend and it was a big battle with rust, and those parts helped with the ride a lot.
oh well

Finally got around to installing a new headunit and antenna. I went with a taco whip and a Sony XAV-AX1000. The HD has been on backorder from crutchfield for at least a month so i was getting pretty antsy to tackle this considering i've had the antenna and assembly for a while and wanted to get it all done at the same time.

Worst part of this job was pulling out the old antenna believe it or not. I was yanking on it and broke it off inside the firewall so i had to spend 30 minutes or so fishing it out with a makeshift hook that i fashioned from the old antenna, lol. I also tied a string onto what i thought was the antenna wire but turned out i got that wrong so i had to fanagle the wire back up and retie it then pull it out. Regardless of my mishaps, all my wiring went smooth, no shorts and i'm getting power so i'm super stoked about that. This is the last big mod i'm doing for a while (I think...). This Sony paired with some new Kicker speakers all around and the front and rear doors sound deadened are going to sound great!

Sorry to hear that 3Bears

Today I finished installing the the front end of my Toytec Boss lift, SPC UCAs, and diff drop. There were a few hiccups along the way, stripped a brake fitting, broke the nut holding the brake line on the knuckle...
IMG_8726_HEIC-X3.jpg

Turns out I stripped the brake fitting because the flare nut wrench was cracked. Then it went full send.

Overall though, the errors were mine and otherwise the install was pretty simple. If I'd have skipped the UCA's, it would have been a lot quicker. It was slow going since this was the first I had done but I enjoyed it.

Side shot with some lean. Still need to get the rears done. Tomorrow...

Have an appt. for tires, wheels, and alignment on Friday. Let's hope I have it done in time.

thanks....using the search i guess its common on the 3rd and 4th gens...I guess nothing a sawzall wont fix :)..the tech said that they need to be cut out with a torch and he uses "SPC" brand when he worked at another shop that did big repairs.

Testing my new fridge setup! Holds pretty good!
Almost autonomous!

Reservoir is Goliam Beglik in Southern Bulgaria... reminds of Whitefish Lake in Montana!

Heck yeah - Bulgaria! What is the minimalist spare tire swing-out setup you seem to have there? I didn't see it in your photos....
