What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Just got her a week ago so still fixing up some things on it. Trying to fix a shifter issue (which I plan to make a post on soon because we're stuck lol), gave her a wash, and took off the back mud flap pieces in front of the rear tires

After a bit of a drought at the pick-n-pull junkyards, finally a couple of 4WD third gens showed up at one of the yards yesterday. Oddly enough, darn near identical twins. Both '00 SR5 4WD automatics, both silver with blue-gray interiors. One hit in front, one in the rear. Weird.

Anyhow, I was able to snag a second donor J-shift transfer case. With two donor cases, I can now completely bench assemble my NWF eco-crawler setup. That way in the spring, my truck won't be apart for as long, just pull the stock transfer, and slap on the completed double-reduction NWF eco-crawler.

I need to order up some new driveshafts as well, 6.5 inches longer in front and 6.5 shorter in the back. 6.5 inches being the length of the new adapter case that holds the second reduction gearset.

It would be nice if the NWF kit would just let a bone stock untouched transfer case bolt onto the back side, but for reasons that I'm sure will become clear to me as I take things apart, the rear case has to come about as apart as it can to replace the input shaft with a new one. And obviously, the middle case gets stripped almost completely down, and only the reduction planetary gearset gets used.

Still waiting on the triple-stick shifter kit from them, but I wouldn't be taking my truck apart right now anyhow. It's got the winter time driving duties to complete...

I read Habs update on YT, and no mud bog to have to lie in doing so, congratulations!

Looking to follow along on your build as I suspect a TC/5-speed rebuild is in the eventual future.

Nice weather the last couple days. Yesterday I had all the windows down enjoying it. This morning I tried rolling down the back hatch window and it wouldn't budge. Went about my day, and figured I get to the window later. Later, I had started troubleshooting when I noticed my window lock button was depressed. LOL. Hatch window is fine, still works.

Ordered OEM Manifold back to the muffler today(yeah, including the Catalytic Converter).. should be in in a few days... then the Installation.. so technically i didn't do anything "to my Runner" except shell out a packet of Money.

Ouch! My condolences to your wallet sir. I bet that was quite expensive. Hopefully you have Federal emissions on a 96-00 so only one catalytic converter.

Thank you
Yeah, just one CC.
All the parts came to $2200 + another $300 for the installation. I just hope that at the Manifold portion things "play nicely" and don't snap.
I replaced the "Cat back" last summer with the Magnaflow Overland system. so I'll have decent system shortly. I'll start pre treating with PB Blaster everyday until i get the call that the parts are in.

Gonna replace both O2 sensors as well. One rusted out the other day so that was the deciding factor to just do the whole thing. I'm in NY, So apparently we have the same emissions as California which will come in handy -Incase i ever move there- which will never happen.

After this then i can work on the expensive stuff Transmission sensors and possible new or rebuilt Trans.
wish me luck!!

Thats way more than pocket money- Good Mod! Bet it helps!

Installed Honda Odyssey windshield washer nozzles. They spray incredibly well, vs shooting out like the OEM Toyota ones. Completely worth the money. Post is on my Instagram

Got half(?) of the bench work done on my Northwest Fab eco-crawler. Took one of the donor transfer cases all apart, and assembled the reduction gears into the new case. And installed the new shift fork.

Up next - disassembling the other donor transfer case and installing the replacement input shaft. Then sticking the two boxes together.

Did an oil change and tranny fluid drain and fill this morning. Went with Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 again because the local costco didn't have any Kirkland signature full synthetic in stock. Maybe next time. The transmission fluid was still pretty red after 10k miles. I'll probably go longer next time, maybe 15-20k. Next up is a tire rotation and maybe alignment!

Got around to installing my Rigid 360 6 inch off-road lights. BRIGHT is an understatement. Crappy cell phone pics don't do them justice. Went on a quick night drive, absolutely insane how bright they are and they light up EVERYTHING. 10/10

will be interested to know how this turns out, to me the is a very attractive way to get reduction.

I'm just not a transmission rebuilder so it gives me pause, 100% I would mess it up the first time and destroy the entire project.

I was meaning to call them and see if they would offer a fully assembled case.
