What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

New hard brake lines for the front (both sides) after the (original) passenger-side hard line busted on a brutal shot from a pothole.

Part numbers are:

4731435330 (passenger side)
4731635250 (driver's side)

Parts were about $16 each from my local stealer. Got them next day via "Special Purpose Order."

Also installed and used a pair of Speed Bleeders. Speed Bleeder Part number is: SB1010. The Speed Bleeder nuts are not metric, they are: 7/16.

Takeaways:

- Job's a little messy since brake fluid tends to end up all over the place. Brake fluid is very slippery!
- Had to use the butane micro torch on the driver's side upper nut. Kept a spray bottle of water handy for a hot/cold treatment and to reduce the risk of the brake fluid catching on fire.
- Was definitely worth it to do both sides at the same time; the driver-side line was bent at the caliper nut in the same way the passenger side was. It just hadn't busted yet.
- It's good to have plenty of brake fluid handy; I probably went through a quart or so during the entire process. Much of that leaked out overnight while I was awaiting the parts.
- The Timmy video was a helpful learning aid. The silicone plugs and fuel tubing are essential.
- If you don't have enough brake fluid in the reservoir, the red "Brake!" light will come on; fill up the reservoir to max and the light will turn off.

Clocked a buck going a solid 55-60mph. Hit square on my bumper from True North Fabrications and didn't even leave a scratch, money well f*ckin spent in my book
RIP little buddy :sobbing:

Probably doesn't seem like much... but got my heater core hoses worked out, even managed to find an over the counter for the pass side connection. Also working on how to re-plumb the AC system with the driver side compressor.

You'll have that warm fuzzy chit knowing your wheel not gona fall off :lookout:

Yeah I definitely have not so much warm and fuzzies right now. Moogs currently on there and they are fairly new, been checking for slop frequently. Then I ran into another 3rd gen on the trail the other day (living out of the 3rd gen and had just got done doing axle seals at a campsite lol) and he said he had the same situation, newer moogs and was checking slop and then one day the bolts on one side sheared and he had a 1k repair bill. Next night I ordered OEM ball joints with the Toyota black bolts. Definitely not interested in my wheels falling off lol. Will swap them when I'm in there swapping my control arms next week. I'll have supreme warm and fuzzies knowing I have good ball joints and not frozen cams (really looking forward to more caster) and fresh poly bushings. After that I'm doing rear arms and then I'll have nearly rebuilt the whole suspension on this truck (It will just be UCAs up front at that point).

That's awsome! How much of a difference did it make?

Alot, no decibel data.
Roof 3 1/4" layers corrugated poly heat shield.
1.5 Queen size 1.5" mattress pads stuffed in air space between bodysides, B C D pillars.
3/8" carpet padding old stuff removed, OE under carpet cargo area rubber mat.

I'm used to it now, yesterday alignment tech driving, me shotgun 10 mi interstate/city made comment on it.

Moog speak of the devil now.
News to me yesterday from alignment tech Moog was bought out/sold 3yrs ago.
ALL parts now from Chiner part less than 4 yrs watch out.

Picked up a sports hood off someone locally on Tuesday, dropped off for paint on Wednesday, and picked it up yesterday. Got it installed and I am digging the new look!

1997 driver side front quarter panel - "free"

I live in Kenmore, WA, and married into a lovely 1997 4runner. A new front drivers' side panel came with it, but it is not required. I believe a local deal is best (I am charging 0, free) as shipping was a roadblock previously. Buy me a coffee or a repesado, offers not refused.

Did the valve cover gaskets and installed some fender flares and a box up top

nice! i'm getting ready to do mine with dynamat, probably wont be quite as thorough as yours looks like you went all out. beautiful!

the fender flares look great, who makes em? i've got a 98 that i'm considering adding flares to too

They're a set of the bushwacker flares. They look pretty good, but I wasn't completely happy with the set. It sits slightly off the fender in a couple spots due to it not being cut properly. Most people probably wouldn't notice...but I do :noidea:

I have the same flares. It's just manufacturing tolerances. The factory flares mount to the body with through holes to minimize gaps. Mine have been on for 15+ years and still look good, so I'm happy about that.

Great looking truck, BTW.

Cheers.
