What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Added a CURT Class 3 Hitch to my 2001 Limited. CURT Model # is: 13087. Pretty easy install except for one thing:

The CURT Instructions show M12 bolts as the bolts for use in the four bolt holes in the frame, but there were no bolts in those holes and off-the-shelf M12x1.25 bolts didn't work.

What did work were OEM part # 90119-A0192 bolts that I was able to find in stock at my local stealer for $6 each.

The OEM bolts went in without any trouble after I used a wire brush and some WD40 to clean up the frame threads.

Torque spec for the frame bolts is 86 ft-lbs per CURT.

No, just plane old rotors. Had the cracking happen on a set of cross drilled and slotted on my miata. Never again will I run cross drilled rotors again.

Did a timing belt job and now my truck doesn't run

Does it crank? The most common scenario is the plug wires not being in the correct order. Also the coolant hoses correctly hooked to the throttle body. The worst for me was the crank position sensor connector wire. I once pinched it while doing the timing belt. After an hour or so of frustration got it soldered and all good. So. Check all the connectors, wires and hoses. As long as the timing marks are good.

Yes it cranks, engine is at 165rpm when cranking according to the obd2 reader

I crimped my cam position sensor and ended up buying a new one(ntk).
Also ruined my crank position sensor, broke in half trying to remove it. I replaced it with a denso one.

I am getting spark, I can start the truck with starting fluid, but I'm not getting fuel. I opened the fuel line before the filter and cranked, but no fuel came out.

A couple days before I did this job I replaced the fuel pump with a denso one and it worked well.

Rebuilt my calipers!

Check for power at the pump. Check the the efi relay, the cor relay inside the cab. 7.5 sta fuse. Connectors, wires, ground wire for the fuel pump. Might have to supply power directly to the fuel pump to see if it spins.

Sounds like somebody previously removed a trailer hitch. Without an OEM (errr... dealer installed) hitch those bolts hold on shipping tie-down loops.

Gathering parts for an impending front-end service and playing a
little loose with the parts I'm choosing...

I know they are built to whatever spec the factory is given, but I found
it amusing that the Toyota inner seal is relabeled and Made in China,
whereas the outer was cheaper than Toyota's and Made in Japan!

Wheel bearings are still inbound, they state genuine Toyota, but who knows.

Set up an appointment to get my windshield replaced. The damn crack just reflects the sun right into my eyes and I just can't take it any more after 4 years lol.

Also picked up some longer bolts for the front limit strap install and rear shocks. But I cooked myself in the heat and sun today doing my friends brakes. So no work until I'm off again next week.

up here its normal...called an Alaskan windshield...runs about 275...dont know there but Alaska prices are high ....that was 3 years ago. my trunda last week was quoted at 4

Spent an utterly ridiculous amount of time downloading the 1997 TSM, splitting it in to chapter sections, and building a nice set of PDF books so I can reference it on my iPad.

Yes, I know I could have gotten a paper one, but I find this to be very handy.

Replaced the alternator...twice within a week

Original alternator seized and actually broke the belt, didn't want to bother doing a rebuild because I'm getting rid of the truck and just need it running again. First alternator was a Pure Energy brand new (not reman) from Rock Auto, as soon as I started it there it was squealing very loudly, smoking, and very hot to the touch. No-load voltage at the battery was barely 12 volts. Sent it back and ordered one that had good reviews off Amazon (Youxmoto brand), no noise or smoke show and charging voltage was over 14v. If I planned to keep it I'd have gotten a reman'd Suzuki Denso

It was my first time returning something to Rock, luckily no issues. I requested a refund online, printed the free shipping label, and was refunded the day after they received it (took 2 days to ship)

I've been busy breaking in new 4.88 gears and TrueTrac diffs F/R this whole week. Still have a bunch of miles to go...

-Charlie

What tire size are you running? I'll regear in the future and 4.88 is one of my choices. I have 265/75 now and will do 255/85 in the future. Thanks Charlie.

Re-badged. I removed the badges, scraped them clean, polished up their original locations, and painted them with a paint that was surprisingly closer to the darker gray used on my accents (mine is Anthracite). Used the same paint for my AM grille.

Four coats of paint and three of clear coat and now they’re back in place. I love the look…nice and understated. I’d get a daylight pic, but I took this just before I started on my lift project, so…it’s in the garage for a bit!

Lift is today - Bilstein/OME kit…will be good to be rid of that driver side sag. Got the driver side front done yesterday, but encountered a stuck lower strut bolt on the passenger side and decided to break for dinner. Today’s the day.
