What did you do with your 4runner today?

I put handle covers on a couple weeks ago too, it definitely looks better without the chrome. I first tried some generic handles (not just covers, but entire handles) from ebay that were supposed to fit. The front handles fit, but pulling them open didn't feel as smooth as the OEM handles. And the rear didn't fit at all, so I went with the same covers J.A. installed: Toyota 4Runner Topography Door Handle Covers

IMO the handle covers look great from 4+ feet away, but they're a little tacky right up close. I might try to find some color-matched handles from a Limited. Hard to beat the price of the covers, though.

I looked at those too. But the Boss & I have a black & white theme going on with this runner. It's MY truck but it's going to look the way SHE wants it to look. So black handles it is.

Do you have a link where you got the matte black handles? Mine are beat up, and paint is chipping. Thanks.

I ordered them from Amazon. Dorman brand. Fronts fit fine. Rears not so much. Got one stuck in the door & had to break it to get it out. Returned the other rear & ordered the correct part (my research not Amazon fit) only to have them refund because "no longer available". Finally found the correct ones at O'Reilly's. Part numbers are: Front 82498 & 82499. Can't remember which is left & right, but the left has the key hole. Rear is 93994 left or right. Those P/Ns are matte black. Also available in black paint to match version. Hope this is some help.

Diff and clamshell pulled yesterday. Packed and shipped today en route to ECGS for 4.56’s and an E-locker.

Rear pinion has a ton of play so it was finally time for a re gear.

I threw in a voltage booster for my Northstar AGM...Scangauge says I'm rocking 14.9v while driving and once running awhile, the charge drops a couple tenths...I have the same thing in my Tundra and it's a AGM life-saver!

Changed the T/case & rear diff fluid. No drama with the drain & fill plugs on these.

Installed Dobinson IMS shocks front and rear replacing Bils 4600. Reused the FJ springs I had, hoping for a little better ride on the street, we'll see. Initial impressions .. hard to tell much.

Fitted my hooky AliExpress TOYOTA grill. Bonnet catch release lever doesn't work now as the amount of movement in the mechanism has been reduced for some reason. "Solved" with a couple of cable ties for now.

Very good looking set up. Just curious how much weight is hanging off the driver side of that box & how is it anchored in the truck?

Hey there. I wasn't getting notifications. Not sure how much weight is there, but I have a support for backup, but the drawer slides are rated for 500 pounds. If I was going to do it agin, I'd use the 250 pound drawer slides as they allow the drawers to be removed.

It's secured with som L brackets in the front (removed the the rectangle piece of carpet and reused the bolts) and in the front I used turnbuckles with hooks and the stock D rings to added D rings on the box.

I've noticed in the last 10 days while driving with the new exhaust...I have a couple times where I hear a rattle/vibration...as expected...I'm wondering if I could use an exhaust wrap to mitigate the vibrations when I am sitting at a light or R/R crossing...while in gear, its subtle, but when in Neutral, it's silent. Regardless, under WOT, I noticed not difference other than sound but midrange seems to have increased in power so that's the best place I'd want to notice the benefit. All things considered, I've picked up maybe a tenth in MPG so now my hand-calc'd average is roughly 15.8mpg...I'd say that's pretty damn fair for the additional weight and aerodynamic decreases it bolsters!

I just knocked out the infamous throttle body coolant bypass in the runner's 2uz...pretty easy but the lines were hugging the nipples something fierce...it'll be nice reducing the temperatures on the intake manifold with the 200°F coolant running through it.

I almost went with the IMS but ultimately went with their twin tubes. Couldn't be happier with this setup on the street, but sometimes wonder if I would have been better off with the IMS.

Has the IMS improved for you since you last posted?

I'd say they are marginally better than the 4600s with regard to harshness, but it's not a striking difference. Other than that, really not much difference IMO.

Sold my 4Runner last year, but found my old 3D model of the iPad dash I eventually built. My favorite thing I did to the 4th gen interior. Figured I'll upload it here in case someone ever wants inspiration for a similar build

Didn’t like how dim these new taillights are in the day light when the running lights are on so added a bit more of a visible “hey, this 7k lb pig is stopping” visual lol

Ps, looks dim in pics but it’s super bright in person, especially since it only lights on braking

Got back fro Sedona, AZ yesterday. Did "Broken Arrow" & a couple of lesser known trails. Banged the RCI skids a few times. Ran great, no issues. Got 24 mpg on the last tank on the way home. All 2 lane 65 MPH roads. Saw this below "the steps". Can't for the life of me figure out how the did that.

Replaced the u-joints on my rear driveshaft and changed the front and rear diff fluid post break in as I just had them rebuilt and re-geared.

Finally found a good use for a pin that I had made on a lathe in fab class for a tube bender that never got completed. The pin is the perfect size for knocking out the u-joints. This will be in my trail bag for sure.
