What did you do with your classic T4R today?

AISIN AISIN AISIN. Let me repeat that: AISIN AISIN AISIN.

Changed out my clutch hydraulics tonight. Saw the paint bubbling under the clutch master (leak indicator) so I went for it. Slave cylinder came out easy enough, but the plunger/piston was wedged in the released position instead of smoothly operating... Hmmmm. Gummed up terribly from a minor seepage as well.

Here's the icing. Master came out, and when I peeled back the boot for a look-see
7e97b382e905beed01a3388a2fa48952.jpg
it exploded apart. You can see the shaft I'm holding in my hand which connects to the pedal has the snap ring and washer sill on it which is what holds the entire guts of the master cylinder in place!! Looking lower in the picture you can see the master with its piston ejected halfway. These are from a non-OEM auto parts chain I installed about 8 yrs/30K ago and I've had clutch chatter off and on since doing the trans conversion at that time. I'm hoping this is what was causing it as I really don't want to have to do the clutch until it's really time.

Brand new Aisin parts went in. I'll finish bleeding tmrw when my wife can help push the pedal. Should be worlds better.

On a side note: anyone know where to get clutch pedal bushings? Noticed my pedal wobbles a fair amount.

One last time folks: AISIN.

AISIN AISIN AISIN. ...AISIN AISIN AISIN.
... AISIN.

YUP!
Replaced my clutch master cylinder with after-market from O'Reilly. In less than a year it started to leak, too. Nice gent at O'Reilly's processed warranty and managed to source an AISIN - yes, AISIN- and have it shipped to store for almost the same price as aftermarket! It's been over 6 years and still no issue.

Installed a Momo Prototype steering wheel

Removed the old one that previous owner had changed (it was from a toyota aurus), and installed a Momo Prototype steering wheel... nice, and now my horn works again :hatsoff:

Busy day

Change front right cv axle, new seat covers and wheels and tires. Got a set of 17” wheels off a 05 4runner

I took the wife and dogs down to the duck hunting area for a walk, and then went to the dealer to pick up a 2018 Taco TRD Off-road. They have my 100 series Land Cruiser in to fix a job they screwed up a month ago and the Taco is a loaner/hostage.

Let me just say, they forgot to put the “U” in the TuRD decal! Even my wife (who likes shiny new things) said she would far rather drive our 20 year old 100 than a brand new Tacoma! No bueno for Toyota!

While reinstalling everything from clutch hydraulics replacement, came across a splitting fuel return hose. $10 in hose, 15 minutes for cheap insurance.

Lasted almost 9 yrs as this particular hose was installed when I did the 3.4 swap back in 2010. Damn California Gas wrecks havoc on these fuel hoses.

Getting things squared away for bumper fitment.

Had to enlarge holes for auxiliary/fog lights

And trim the passenger side to clear the winch

But it all fits

Still waitin for a good weathered weekend to paint it....

A340 auto to geared transfer case conversion

Finished up the tear down for converting my A340 auto to geared dual transfer cases
I think the duals will actually be lighter

Got tired of waiting for good weather so I cleared out space in the garage and laid down a big ass tarp. Still got overspray haze on the garage floor but that just adds character

2 GOOD coats of self etching primer yesterday

And 3 coats of satin black today

I think it'll be done besides any minor touch up. I'm ready to put it all on next weekend I'm thinking. Winch, lights and all!

Installed this cheapy chinese radio. All I want is bluetooth and no annoying bright distracting LED's. Bonus: It's got a cell phone holder!

Alright. Finally got the bumper and winch on! Still have some work to do since I'm remote mounting the solenoid but it should be well worth the wait when I get it all dialed in.

I'll get a bunch of pictures of all the insanely tight clearances and stuff I had to shimmy when I get it squared away. Should be this week

Edit: had time this morning to wrap it all up!
Remote mounted solenoid pack, took last available underhood space.

Mounted the plug for the winch control trigger in the dash. So stoked how this turned out.

Final nose shot. Thanks to Dropzone for the tidbit on the LED flasher unit. Easy install and fixed the hyperflash now that the bumper has LEDs.

front window weather stripping

Finally spent a few minutes to find the part number for the window glass run channel seal. p/n 68141-89108 w/ vent window.

Both sides had tears in the seals and constant whistling. Should be here Tuesday and then install.

Made a bit more progress on stripping mine down before I start attacking the rust.

I had a similar issue with my drivers side. I just pulled the seal and put some urethane behind and put the seal piece back in place. Mine was all there, but slid down into the door.

I also went from rusty to not rusty:
