What is the fastest speed you ever got?

i personally do not see this as a competition (cough) (cough)

because a. im not winning.:naughty:

and b. i got up to 108 (when i had stock tires) and i almost got caught. luckily there was a guy behind me going faster, and catching up to me. my radar detector went off, i coasted back down to 80 (speed limit is 75, and when the radar detector goes off you never slam on the brakes, its the first admission of guilt.) and got in the right lane, expecting to be pulled over. and the guy flew past me. thus the cop did too. olice:

needless to say, i never did nor will ever do that again. practically peed my pants.

from now on, i set the cruise control... and just roll. :driving:

most of them do. formally known as "x alert"

haha. i always have mine on city mode, thus x doesnt make noise. only k, ka, laser, emergency vehicle approaching, and occasionly, which i dont know what it means, VGT make sounds. i tihnk its another person with a radar detector.

my music is usually too loud to hear it anyway, so my eyes are trained that if it goes off i notice the change. :wow:

Radar detectors seem like a waste of money...

I borrowed one from a friend to drive back from CO last summer, top of the line Cobra... It went off on me 3 times in the middle of Kansas where I was the only person on the road for miles and yet I passed several cops, including 2 who were clearly shooting radar, without the thing ever making a peep.

Phazers on the other hand...

edit: btw middle of nowhere Kansas, I forgot to say that cuz from what I've seen most of Kansas is the middle of nowhere...

eh i have friends with some expensive ones and i have seen first hand that they work, and i have seen they also make false alarms or no alarm when you see a cop. so i have no comment on whether they are worth it or not

Funny thing about Radar Detectors... as fast as they come out with them, the cops/companies are always tweakin the radar guns. Sort of a supply demand thing...

i do ride alongs with a few friends that are on the force quite often. and what they do now, is they have a remote in their hand (as small as a stereo remote) and they turn it off til the see someone speeding, then turn it on and by then your already caught. theres no prewarning that radar is going.

that and alot of cops are using laser now days. theres no beating lidar.
