What is the stock MAF tube diameter?

My '99 5vzfe has the type of MAF sensor that bolts into the pipe (instead of the housing and pipe being all one assembly like on the '96-'98 models).

What is the inside diameter of the MAF tube? I tried to measure it with my dial calipers, but at one end of the pipe, the opening is larger, and transitions to a slightly smaller diameter closer to the MAF. My dial calipers couldn't reach down the pipe far enough to measure the smaller diameter.

I'm thinking the diameter is anywhere between 2 5/8" and 2 7/8". Does anyone know exactly what it is?

Not sure why you ask, but my best guess is the o-ring is a piece of crap right now and needs to be replaced. I just replaced mine, but I went to the parts store and they took one off the shelf to find the right size for me.
I don't know the size, but offering a way to find out easily at the parts store. Good luck.

Huh? What o-ring? I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. If I go to the parts store and ask for a MAF sensor, they'll just hand me the sensor piece that drops into the tube. I'm wanting to know what the diameter of that tube is.

I'm thinking I got a different setup or something. Anyways, the MAF I have is right behind the cruise control right after the air filter assembly. Held by 2 screws. O-ring but is a whole assembly all together.
I'm not sure of the diameter for the tube.

Also, that assembly includes TWO sensors: The MAF (two wires inside small tube) and the Intake AirTemp sensor (bulb on outside of tube). If you are trying to build your own MAF sensor assembly, I applaud your initiative but I think it is more effort than it is worth. Rockauto sells off-brand sensors for like $50. Has to be better than a homebuilt.
