Glad you can make a decision based on your ONE data point. In my world we actually look at as many as possible lol. Jeeps are cool vehicles with lots of options but they are not reliable at all. You posted no data to back up your ONE data point so here is my data to back up my statement:

Really? I know jeeps ARENT AS RELIABLE. F*CK ME. I mean really I get it. Cute little statistic btw. It reflects the electric issues when the '14s came out which is now fixed. But that doesn't even matter. All I did was say mine hasn't had any issues when my 4R has. I bragged about how much better my whip will be to my wife than her jeep and now she's laughing. I still know toyotas are more solid but in my household right now that's something that time will have to tell.
alot of good points here. I buy my vehicles with cash,But i never buy new,it doesnt make sense to me. I seek always a 3 to 4 yr old model with low miles. This would be the only way to go with a jeep product.they lose crazy value fast. 4 runner not so much,but i buy at auctions and can get a better price.
The jeep turbo diesel is as cool as it gets,Im as big a turbo fan as i am a toyota fan,maybe even bigger really. That jeep kicks the 4runners arse bad on everything but reliability and tuffness.
I like comfort and tuffness,We all know the 4runner has a certain tuff coolness to to it,this is why the wife drives the GC and the mdx here.But its still in the fam and when a long trip comes up,I bet there is no argument on what vehicle to take.The 4 runner is the better play vehicle for sure,but everyday driver? thats what im looking for. I have no interest in another huge truck,im over that,getting rid of the superduty. I have to drive alot for work in tight spaces in neighborhoods,dont want another gas hog either..Im a car guy and truck guy...always had both,but the older I get the more comfort and features are important to me a everyday driver.
Im interested to hear how much better a ride the 4runner can get with a/m suspention...what are the technical diff in the GX?Ive yet to test drive one.I love the drive train though,I have a gs460 with same motor and 8 speed tranny,most comfortable and reliable,enjoyable car ive ever driven.

Depends on what you're coming from. And, frankly, I'm more than a little confused with your questions. Given, what you say you've owned and driven.
My advice, go drive a 4R and see if you like the ride. If lux is what you're after (and this is where the perception comes in) a GX is probably your best bet. To me, they drive "smaller," and will be a better daily for you given the tight spaces in which you you park.

2010+ T4R and 2010+ GX are technically identical for aftermarket possibilities sans all the work that would have to be done from a body panel POV. Of course, the GX has KDSS standard, and depending on model version you could have a host of additional suspension gadgets vs. the T4R. But at its most basic level, they are the same. Everything on my T4R looks like it could direct bolt-on to the GX. Suspension, skids, sliders...all the mounting holes are there.
Both trucks work well as family haulers, though I would rank the GX as slightly better - more leg room in front. Key to both trucks being usable is to stick the short adult in the front passenger seat then stagger the second row forward giving both the second and third more space.
Stock suspension on GX is OK, floaty is how I would describe it - thus I only keep it in sport mode to make it slightly stiffer - but not near what I prefer. If I had a choice I would swap it out with a stage 6 Icon setup, F & R bumpers, bigger tires (already changed the wheels :biggrin2

My other vehicle is a Lexus RX330. Compared to my lifted 4R TE it feels like a luxury sedan with the handling of a sports car. Still, I prefer the truck ride of the 4R.

eep:I will have to look at the gx,Never drove one,dont really like the high skinny look of the rear end. Im sure it has to be a much more comfortable daily driver,I wonder what kind of suspension gadgets you speak of. I have the adjustable suspension setup in the Gs and love it,rarely use sport,the v8 is fairly fast...while its nice to have a sports sedan.I am a multi vehicle guy,If I want sport I drive a supra,with coilovers and a single turbo,the lex pails in comparison. But the older I get the less I drive the supras and the more i lean toward not getting beat and bounced around,deafened by loud car or truck.
Ive been known to swap more parts than the average guy to get what im after.
hows audi a8 front seats in a fabtech,bilstein lifted superduty feel? way better than stock...still sick of big trucks.Speaking of seats, the t4r seats really suck even for a truck.youd think it would at least come with projector hid lights in its price range.

You need to remember everyone is not you. The seats are fine...to me. I am driving 1100 miles tomorrow in those seats and I will be fine. As long as headlights light up the road I am fine with them too. You really need to NOT get a 4Runner. I think a Jeep is more your speed.
you may very well be right really. Im looking for considerably better than fine,If i can mod it to suit my needs for less money than a jeep would cost me long term in repairs,id consider it..doesnt sound like that is possible from what im hearing here.you guys would know better than me owning them and driving them daily.

Sounds liked you might be happiest with the GX. I have a '14 TE and a (inherited, mom can no longer drive and gotta sell '07 GX). While they are not the same generation, I can tell you the GX has two advantages over the T4R, suspension (as in comfortable ride) and the v8.
I'm love my 4Runner and have absolutely no complaints or regrets, but it's obvious from a lot of threads here folks seek to want to improve their suspensions and wish they still offered the V8. If your not wanting to heavily mod your new rig why not go with the GX? It's got the engine we'd all like to have, has a great capable suspension, and a super comfy interior.

i agree and will be considering the gx,the only thing i dont like about it is the tall roof line and weird rear end and tail lights,if they made the gx the same body as the 5th gen 4r with the better v8 motor,8 spd trans,suspension,interior,electronics,id deff own one..so would alot of others here i bet.
just from the looks of the body and the interior,I would be looking at the 2010 and up,the previous models look ancient inside.I find it funny they used tape decks in models all the way up to 2009. what is the diff in the 460 and 470 models after 2010?

I'm not terribly oft put by the GX looks, although I certainly like the 4Runner better. If it makes any difference, the tall body, in the previous gen like I own were known to be less than stable in corners, but I know that has been remedied on the new ones. FWIW, unless the suspension was in its softest mode and taking a corner to hard, I never noticed any disconcerting body roll.
Hope you find the right rig for you. Options are limited for true 4x4's these days. Short of the L.C. or it's Lexus brethren the GX is probably the most posh, capable truck out of Japan. Could always take a look at Rovers or if your pockets are real deep, a G-Wagon!

thanks for the tips,deff gonna look harder at the 2010 gx now.Id love to stick with a yota product if possible. I like the rovers just like the jeep,but the back end baggage is just too risky for a used vehicle thats close to out of warranty like im looking for. The boxy G wagon...not so much..that thing is way overdue for a makeover...The gx looks to be all wheel drive all the time.I think this would prolly be the best solution for me being mostly a onroad rig used on the beach from time to time,im sure it will do fine there.Reading about it,seems to have some kinda elec rear locker also,although never seen one on the beach....

Glad to help and hope you find a nice GX. Not sure where in VA your from but I know we had good dealing with Pohanka in Chantilly. They also always seems to have a small but very nice selection of used models as well.
The GX is full 4wd but still retains a low-range. I know now standard on the new ones, probably on the 2010's as well, is the highly thought of KDSS system as well as the adjustable XREAS ride control. Definitely a capable vehicle, I think it was FourWheeler that did a full on build to one awhile back.
