i'm socially moderate, and fiscally conservative. i believe strongly in landowner rights, and the right to choose. i would like to see the scotus rule that citizens have a right to uninfringed constitutional carry. i wish we as a society would hold individuals more accountable for their actions, and i am a proponent of the death penalty.

because my income is what it is, i rarely end up paying federal income tax. yet, i have never applied for, nor wanted, assistance in any way. i bought, and have paid for, my house. i own outright all of my vehicles and belongings. no loans period. i pay all utilities on time, don't have a cell phone, basically have zero debt.

and by your standard, i'd be unable to vote. i have never missed voting in any state or federal election.

actually, i miswrote. i do pay some federal, just isn't a big amount most years. perhaps 2 years out of the past 20 i didn't owe any tax after deductions. the last two years were very good years, with the commensurate higher tax paid.

Problem is you're now getting into democracy vs republic and be careful going down the pure democracy route. The nation was put together the way it was precisely because the framers were afraid of a tyrannical majority trouncing the rights of the minority. A lot of the protections put in place against this have already been torn away.

I can't speak for [MENTION=139706]mesto102[/MENTION] but trumps policy proposals are better at least on paper. The problem is i doubt he's read them, and even more problematic is that he has no understanding of the reasoning behind them.

He has no idea what he's doing, how things work, or why. He keeps saying he's going to hire the best people but then fires his state teams before the delegate selection in those states, then he whines when he gets shut out. He keeps bragging about how smart he is and what a fast learner he is, but he doesn't even grasp the basics of the presidential nomination process, nor has he been able to put anyone in charge who does. And a year into running for President of the United States, the man still thinks judges investigate crime and sign bills into law.

All that said, if it comes down to trump vs hillary, I'd still probably pick trump. Given the choice between two awful options, I'll take the arrogant, incompetent, whining buffoon who likes America and Americans over the arrogant, incompetent, felonious, victim- blaming sociopath who hates America and finds Americans utterly contemptible.

I just pray it doesn't come down to that.

I used to think the electoral college was bs too. Over the years I have came to realize the importance of it. in my humble opinion, it is a check and balance to discourage corruption in the election process. Most presidential elections the college is all but invisible but imagine this: Let's say some smart 17 year old hacker figured out how to influence the popular vote with some ballot stuffing special code and influenced the election that way. That's when the college could be that last ditch check that makes it right. That's my opinion. Those guys understand the gravitas of their job and take it seriously. On the other side I'm pretty sure if one of the members cast their ballot contrary to overwhelming local popular vote they would be rode out of town on a rail. If I remember correctly there is some arcane rule in place to counter that scenario also.

Iv'e been lurking this thread and eating popcorn but its time to share my thoughts on each candidate. Idk where the conversation is at this point but here is my ramblings when I should be studying for my dynamics midterm in 2 hours.

Bernie Sanders didn't have a real job until his forties and is considered as one of the least successful senators in congress right now. A president who gives up the mic to BLM supporters does not instill confidence in the people.

Hilary Clinton wants to take away the 2nd amendment although she is surrounded by guns for protection. Hillary for prison 2k16!

Ted Cruz doesn't support separation of church and state and wants a theocracy. (High chance he is the zodiac killer also)

Donald Trump says mean things that hurt demisexual, asexual, polyamorous, "I identify as a wolf" people. He doesn't give a **** about being PC and says what he believes; and I respect that regardless if I agree with all of his policies.

He rarely has a policy and when he does it might last an hour before he needs to recant it. During that hour he is tweeting something boorish about someone. He has no class or dignity. He is disrespectful to all but those who bow to him. He has no cohesive sensible thoughts or statements about much of anything. This also describes many or perhaps even most people in this country, thus his success to this point. He is the perfect microcosm of what the great ole USA today is all about I fear. He's selling snake oil and you're buying it by the case.
