Why black out the chrome?

The best thing about black wheels,... hides brake dust.

Goes back to the days when everyone had steelies and black was the easiest color to maintain and repaint.

Still don't understand alloys.

People thinking chrome looks good, but instead look like grandpa pimp tooling around with a vinyl top.

Nice alignment of the "chrome" trim between the rear door and "landau" top.

So I read all of the post before commenting. I guess I'm the only one, I love the blacked out look on white vehicles, because it provides contrast. I like the silver on the black vehicles for the same reason, it provides contrast. I am getting new tires on Monday, white walls (well letters really) out! because it provides contrast, if I had a white 4Runner I would never do such a thing. So I don't like it all the time or dislike it all the time, I think it has a place and so does the blacked out plasti dip thing. Personally I wouldn't want a murdered out all black on black 4Runner, I think the color accents give it a little depth. Maybe I'm alone in this feeling.

I love the matte black emblem look on my white SR5. Also goes really well with black wheels and tint. Just a personal preference!

For every chrome lover there is a chrome hater, even within given "communities" (street, trail/outdoorsy, etc.)

We are shopping 5th gen 4Runners for my wife right now. Funny enough, her main opposition to the Ltd is the chrome

The chrome is easily remedied. In fact a limited with the chrome blacked out is very nice looking IMO

Yes - funny enough I was surfing the web-site for our local Toyota dealer yesterday and saw they have a used '16 Ltd for sale with about 21k miles...all blacked out. Really like the looks of it

I like chrome on steel. That being said I don't mind the chrome on my Limited although it is a little bit much.

Still not a huge fan of chrome on plastic.

I love the way the black lettering looks with the black car. I think it is all personal preference. Also less of a hassle with polish.

Have a new black limited. Considering blacking the chrome.. Decisions decisions. I think I need to see it online somehow first

I was not a fan of the chrome, especially after the 1st winter. The chrome was discolored from the chemicals they put on the road to fight the snow and ice.

I had all of the chrome painted. The running boards were powder coated. I went with Black Rhino Cog Rims, 285/55/20 tires and 3" REVTEK lift. Now it doesn't look like every other Limited on the road.

The next step is a better roof rack and ladder. The mods can be endless.

I am indifferent on the chrome thing… the amount of dislike for it is almost comical to me.

I am more annoyed if I have to go out of my way to wrap, paint, or dip the chrome off the car or truck. We have a Limited, it just looks mature when compared to the other trims. The ones where people have blacked out or wrapped the chrome looks good to me too.

Chrome has some sort of backwoods truck-life appeal… sometimes when traveling you just see the big truck with a whole lot of effort put into the chrome décor. Not my thing either, but I can appreciate it from a truck-life standpoint. I saw a RAM that had chrome on the mud flaps along with a bunch of other stuff. Very entertaining haha.

I guess I just spend a lot less time worrying about looks, I just want it to work, and work well. Probably the same reason I am 100% content with my gold 4th gen even though people love to tell me it’s the least desirable color. One can only hope they jack the 4Runner sitting next to mine instead of mine because of it.

I have 4 trucks in my family, all black and one dark blue. Very little chrome, never really gave it any thought just bought models that are mostly blacked out from the start, better look for my taste.

I love chrome, especially in the interior of a car. You know, so the sun can reflect off it and blind you while driving. remember the chrome on the tail gates back in the 80s? How fun was that with the sun at your back and all that bling in your face. LOL. I don't know why people like it so much, but I care not for it. Unless is black chrome. Now that I like, if only they can make it more durable.

Because someone told the Germans and Japanese that Americans like chrome (maybe we did a thousand years ago) so they think that putting the crap everywhere makes us assume it's a nicer car or truck.

One of the things I loved about my 2013 was that it had no chrome trim (just badging).

I paid, in 1991, $500 for the "chrome package" as its called on the bill of sale, and I really got it for looks cause it does look good, in my opinion, and I guess I just like it for when my truck is clean. If ya got it make it look good right?



Ha I guess that makes me one of the very few :tongue1: but in all honesty my friends do think I am loony for putting that much effort in a 23 year old truck
