Why buy a rack?

Recently I was talking to my wife about the possibility of buying a Gobi stealth rack for the 4r. When she asked why we needed it especially since we can easily throw stuff on the roof (we have all the tie downs, protective mat etc), I found that I did not have a convincing enough answer for myself especially given the cost.
So will those of you who have racks installed, please let me know what the advantage is over just using the carrier and cargo bars that came with the 4R?
I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question..but I would really like to know.
Thanks

How are you going to mount a hilift jack, Jerry cans, shovel, axe, a roof top tent, and lights to the stock rails?

To mount more stuff safely with more tie down points and more support. Personally, it's for the lights, high lift, awning, roof top tent, gas cans and crap that I don't want inside. Also, I like to just sit up their and chill :lmao:

Ok that makes sense. So basically for someone who is hugely into camping...I can definitely see the advantage. For someone who may not be as big into it...it may not be a good idea? Also, does the rack allow for heavier loads than the OEM stuff?

How about for the awnings or pop up tents if you guys are campers? Or at least the awning for tailgating, beach trips and just a reason for a family picnic.

After being at the Summit and taken pictures of Joneseyyy and LimaMike's rigs, my lady wants to know about getting a rack on mine o we can have the awning for camping trips.

With a 300# weight limit to possibilities are limitless! My logic was to be able to put my gun & bow case on top since I won't have room inside. Plus it is a better way to mount kayak racks. I have 15' kayaks and the longer distance between mounting points is what I am going for. I have decided to go with BajaRack instead of GOBI, too much hate on slow delivery and poor customer service.

It should have a higher load rating than the OEM rack. If you haven't found yourself disappointed with the functionality of the stock rack, or scratching your head on where to mount extra fuel and tools, it is probably of little value to you.

Camping!

Jerry cans, clothes, etc.

And, look at the Baja. It will ship in 1/10th of the time and keep her from getting pissed that you spent a grand and had to wait over three months to receive it with little to no communication.

Also cool to sit up there to watch the fireworks for the fourth of July. Oh, and Christmas lights in December LOL
